Maybe Nash can flip to a REAL Alt station

"It's a Long Way to the Top" by AC/DC was the stunt song.

"Back in Black" by AC/DC was the first official song of the new station.

I was fortunate enough to tune into 106.7 around 4:50 to hear the stunt (I had just left the office), and I tuned back a few minutes after 5p and caught nearly all of the launch montage!!! :)

The launch montage was well done, I might add.

Didn't take long for The Doc to take an indirect pot shot at WRIF - "It's great to bring back Detroit's most iconic rock station of all time."

Does anyone know where I may find Alt 106.7's grave? I'd like to piss on it!

At first I thought this was a prank.
They started reading Chapter 1 of Genesis and then talking about Wllz, and I was expecting a twist

Stopnswop,

With Cumulus dealing away WNSH in NYC, are they still running the Nash brand as a national brand? Meaning, are they’re going to keep failing stations around to keep market coverage? If not, perhaps flips could be coming to some Nash brands? That said, I’m not sure a WKQX-type station, as good as it would sound, would do well. The question would be did Alt fail because of the execution of the format or did it fail because there’s just not a market for this format.

But, I’m with MW. Good riddance to Alt. Entercom was wise to not jump on this when they picked up the CBS cluster.

I believe multiple Nash stations flipped right?
If I'm right, then there is hope.

I'll have to look into that info about the nationa brand though.

Nope, the national NASH Icon brand is still in full gear.

There is not nearly enough of a demand for Alternative for it to survive on a Detroit FM signal. When 89X went to indie/pop-flavored alternative a few years ago, the ratings took a nosedive. What had been an already weak 1.8 share radio station became a 1.1 share radio station.

96.3 The Planet as Modern AC had lousy ratings for several years. Alternative in the year 2018 is as mellow or perhaps even more mellow than the post-grunge material of the 90's.

The Edge had terrible ratings (granted, you had 89X, The Edge, 97.1 and 96.3 all competing for overlapping audience segments).

89X only earns good ratings when (a) it has a hot morning show and (b) leans Active Rock.

Last but not least - we have the clusterfuck known as Alt 106.7 who averaged 6+ ratings in the mid 1's during its brief life.

What other proof does one need?

I will say this - Alt's demise could tempt 89X to mix some of the "lighter" alt rock categories back into rotation. I sure as hell hope they don't do that.

You have to keep in mind MW that all these Alternative stations don't even have a real alternative playlist.

I have to go with the execution here

It’s a shame 89X doesn’t subscribe. I know a radio pro on one of the other boards was saying they average around a 1.5 in Detroit, pretty much what they’ve been running since Dave & Chuck left. No idea about Windsor, since last I checked, Windsor didn’t even release a book due to low turnout.

Honestly, if the demise of Alt does anything, it could prompt the River to dump the Pink, Maroon 5, et. al. and go more straightforward Alternative. They also seem to be playing more Cancon than I remember them playing pre-Alt.

Is there a format this frequency hasn’t been?

106.7 as Fault pretty much played the same currents & recurrents as most other so-called Alternative reporting stations in the year 2018.

Few people want to hear weak-sauced alternative music in this town. Those that do likely aren't listening to FM radio as their primary source of audio.

Yup...
Sports.
News/Talk.
Urban AC.
Urban Contemporary.
Active Rock.
Hot AC.
Mainstream AC.
Oldies.

During the past decade, every failed format seems to result in a reversion to Classic Rock for some reason.

I’ll compromise. Since I couldn’t get oldies on 106.7, can we get the HD3 oldies put on 1130?
