Hippie Radio

Post by Deleted User 14803 » Mon Dec 17, 2018 1:49 pm

We need a station that would play Hippie tunes from mid 60’s to early 70’s stuff like Hendrix,Joplin,Doors,Sly And The Family Stone,Strawberry Alarm Clock and Vanilla Fudge and more,That would be cool radio, just a thought.

Now I love that idea.
However that's really no different from an oldies station but without the rock n roll and soul.

Actually that pretty much sounds like a classic rock station from 15 years ago

Your sort of right, but more emphasis on West coast groups and basically music from ‘67 - ‘73 you would play Jefferson Airplane, Cream, Mountain, Spirit, Pacific Gas and Electric, Chase, Blood Sweat and Tears,Chicago and the list could go on. It’s Oldies but anything that was even from the Woodstock era as well as some mainstream Oldies In that 6 year range.

Unfortunately due to the way radio is today, I can't see an FM station doing this, but an AM station should totally pick this up, like the one you mentioned in the other thread!

They are sort of the idea but they still play mainstream Oldies/Classic Hits, look at the playlist on the website, they do emphasize just a bit more on Late 60’s tunes, now the website is definitely cool. I did see that yesterday we are on the same page.

Listen to them they are rather cool, actually in my opinion this is what The Big 104 should become.

With Tim running the station? nooope.
The moment he got on board at CBS Radio Detroit he removed the word "Oldies" from the station name.

If they were smart the Oldies word doesn’t have to be used just call it Hippie 104.3 that’s it. But what do I know ?

Well I wouldn't say "If they were smart", in fact it would be opposite if they were to reformat a station that's consistantly in the top 3.
Plus, all Entercom Classic Hits stations are moving in a 'newer" direction. WCBS-FM rarely plays any 70s even. They are mostly playing 80s, 90s, and very early 2000s and are a top station in NY.

Now if a different company (not iFart though, because they can't program anything right and then force most stations to use their horrible corporate playlists) or independent were to flip a station to this Hippie Format, I honestly do think it would do very very well.
The issue though would be revenue. Advertisers still are under the delusion that people over 55 don't have disposable income. (Brainless morons are what they are to think this). Smh. 😑

But a lot of younger listeners like The Breeze, that is playing some older titles, so maybe the younger audience will dig on Hippie Radio.

I was listening to WCSXs "Sunday Morning Overeasy" 2 days ago and they were playing some true "oldies" format songs (for a change). Blood, Sweat andTears, The Lovin Spoonful, and a double play from the Zombies. I loved hearing that on the radio again. Its been awhile. Plus, my favorite seasonal song: The Kinks "father Christmas".
