We're experiencing a disconnect between the reference to Paul McCartney's "New" album from 2013, and what I assume is a reference to his new album, "Egypt Station", from 2018.

So, his old album is his "New" album, and his new album isn't "New".

I'll cede the discussion to Messrs. Abbott & Costello at this time.
Yes, it's the "New" album from 2013. On a side note, we could do a thread on all of the amazing work that Paul McCartney has done in the last 30 years that has had minimal, if any, play on Detroit radio.

Define old.
For most people, it's probably a relative thing. Anything more specific than that, and I know someone would object.

I graduated from high school in 1977, but I've been able to appreciate some current music, thanks to restaurant radio, Amazon Prime, and Saturday Night Live.

My 2000s playlist on Amazon Prime includes these artists:

Colby Caillat (Coco album)
Katy Perry (a few singles and several album cuts, including the great "Wide Awake")
Lana Del Rey (Born to Die album) Sure, her pictures got my attention first, but the music's also interesting.
Kelly Clarkson (mostly the Breakaway album, the first album I ever downloaded)
Train (Drops of Jupiter album)
Michelle Branch (everything she ever recorded—my favorite new artist of this century)
Sara Bareilles (Little Voice album with "Love Song")
Taylor Swift (a few pre-Shake It Up songs)
Pink (a few songs, including the amazing "Who Knew")
Martina McBride (Reckless album)
Regina Spektor (that strange, fascinating "Fidelity" song)
Avril Lavigne ("Complicated")

Old folks — Anyone have a lot of favorite 2000s music?
Young folks — What else would you recommend to me?
Sounds like a lot of what Radio Disney played.
It probably is middle of the road, the kind of stuff that 98.7 would include in their playlist.

I’m fine up until the 90’s after that no interest.
The rise of hip hop and rap in the 1990's really split the pop music audience. I'll watch a YouTube video of music from any year before 1990 and recognize most of the music. After that, a lot of it's unfamiliar.

Surprised that no one's mentioned Radiohead. I've started listening to some of their music based on their high ranking in this list: https://www.besteveralbums.com/topratedstats.php

They've got a pretty accessible underground style that would have sounded good in the late 1960s and early 1970s.

The Flaming Lips have been around since the 80's. I remember my friend talking about them in college in 1988.

I won't. Because I'll be 34 next month and the vast majority of my listening is WWJ. I love the classics but the older I get, the less that trickles through and catches my ears.

This is true but the song “DoYou Realize”is from 2002 and a great song I’m 63 and dig the song.

The most recent thing that I've been into would be The Accidentals but at the end of the day, Gord Downie is still where it's at

Death Cab For Cutie took its' name, btw, from a Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band song. That band performed their song in a scene from the 1967 Beatles movie Magical Mystery Tour, a film conceived in part and co-starring...Paul McCartney, who's also mentioned elsewhere in this thread.

Yes, Paul has had many songs since his hit-making days that were under-appreciated by broadcast radio. "Spies Like Us", unfortunately, wasn't one of them, but Paul mercifully spares his concert audiences that one.

See "Vanilla Sky" for a much better example of a movie song he's done that got little notice outside of an Oscar nomination.

(Hoping this post survives the hacking hailstorms out there)

Nothing at all. Good creative bands that interest you ears have left ,and over producing lame music with pro tools and auto tune is just a sad replacement of creativity and an insult to my ears . How many songs today would be laughed at 30 years ago ? Most all of them . Competition makes you better . Seems they can only compete with the past . And they dont come close .

I can't argue against any of this, especially since the "old" people continue to clown the kids. Dig Jimmy McCarty.... He's 73 .
