In response to Art Van ,first of all it’s to bad that all those people lost everything I feel sorry for them and Thank God Every day for everything I have, but I’m just saying that in catastrophic situations like the hurricanes and any other types of emergencies radio has always and will be there because not everyone has to have access to it in order for it to reach masses of people as far as cell phones and internet connections are concerned how long does a cell battery last a day a week who knows but with radio someone always has one that works and as far as the radio stations go if no one is broadcasting in an area it’s still possible that you could receive one from 100’s of miles away at least on AM.
Again, your examples are valid for 30 years ago. Radio is not the “go-to emergency save-the-day” service anymore. It just isn’t. Just listen to the emergency speeches given by municipal leaders before and after a catastrophic event. The lead communication device is the mobile phone! They have emergency apps, have special phone banks and even text messaging. And happens after the event, too.

Now, if, God forbid, we get hit with a nuke, all bets are off and the general population will probably use smoke
signals or telegraphy.

What radio needs is PROMOTION. Radio needs to self promote itself in every aspect of daily life. Promote its personalities, music, news, traffic, weather sports, etc. Get highly visible in the community. Do remotes all over the region. Get a couple of hot chicks with tight t-shirts to do the remotes. Sell them to advertisers, build the bottom line, and promote internally, quarter hourly, whenever and wherever.

The average listener doesn't even know what station they listen to, and that's because no one promotes.

I really think the Bounce 105.1 should of played the old school rap classics after about 6 months to a year...as in Beastie Boys, Run DMC, LL Cool J. How can you have an old school channel and never hear Run DMC or Beastie Boys unless it's in a mix? They should of turned this station into the old 96.3. Get Beau, Lisa Lisa..probably under contract with other stations..ok. Sorry, just talking shit. Play old school rap, dance music that 96.3 use to play. I know so many people that miss that station. Open up the playlist. Everything that is old is new again. Anyway, I'll try and post some 96.3 stuff on here. Many tapes from the mix shows and just other stuff. Take care...love the site.
