LOL - the seller seems unsure on the asking price.

Based on 60 dBu count being only 425k, my guess would be 107.3 The Juice. Lucas plus Wood Counties hold a combined ~560,000 population, so that rules out 107.7 The Wolf (which delivers a 60 dBu or stronger to nearly all those people).

107.3 is a mediocre signal - probably the worst in the market among full power FMs licensed for commercial use - so the cheap asking price makes sense if that is indeed the station for sale.
Morgan Wallen is a piece of garbage.

107.3 was my first thought from the headline. Calling it full power is a bit misleading, but at least it's not a translator.

What does 96.9 cover? I doubt KLOVE sells but you never know

Let’s just hope cumulus doesn’t pick it up. They would create another mediocre product.

107.3? wow... Charlie "Chuck" Welch said one time he would burn the station down before selling it. Still, that was over 20 years when he was quoted in The Toledo Blade. When Chris Borelli (think that's how you spell it) used to write a column on radio and TV every Monday.

Yes, 107.3's signal is spotty and to tell you the truth, it must have just made the cut barley with the FCC, as you have WNWV about 2 hours away and 107.1 in Ann Arbor. On a hazy morning I've gotten in WNWV over it here in Wood Co.

Anyway, would the Welch family sell it to a non-African American broadcaster?

96.9, EMF would only sell it if they were going for a stronger signal. 96.9's isn't bad in the west part of T-town but does fade a tad over in Oregon, Genoa, and points east. There transmitter is in Wauseon, in Fulton County.

Cumulus I doubt would buy it. Unless somehow Urban LLC would be interested in a 3rd station to go with WJZE and WIMX.

Of course, there is a real possibility that a religious broadcaster would get it. MW is likely correct, as the asking price is under 500k, which if I recall correctly was about what 106.5 is worth.

It would be interesting if the Juice gets sold as Welch has owned the station since it came on the air. His son Charlie Mack was a personality on there at one point.

The Juice has been an Urban AC with some classic hip hop for a few years now. If URBAN/ Glass City Radio buys it, I wonder if a gospel format would work for 107.3 to go along with Mix 95.7 and Hot 97.3?

Woah, I thought URBan was much larger than 5 stations. I must be thinking about someone else. I'd imagine you're correct about it being the Juice. Unless I'm missing it, they don't even stream the station anymore. There's a Shoutcast link on their site, but it's been dead for some time. Also, I think Charlie Mack went on to real estate, I figured he'd be running things.

They had I think 4 clusters at one point. Toledo, 2 in Mississippi ( I think), and 1 in Alabama. Although their home office is in Florida. They entered the Toledo market around 2003, Cumulus was set to purchase 95.7 but that would have put them over their limit. So they spun the station off to a small owner, then Urban purchased the station. It's just weird how WIMX and WXKR's logo looks so similar.

Is Urban looking to purchase another station, I have no idea.

They sold off their Alabama Cluster a few years back-https://radioinsight.com/headlines/1713 ... le-shoals/

It appears that WJUC is grandfathered under Section 73.213 as a 3000 watt/100 meter HAAT Class A station. They have a special table of lesser distance separation requirements. They are allowed to be closer than the newer 6 kW Class A stations. This station apparently has not been able to upgrade. WQKL is another such station.

Remember that the FCC created short spacing by constantly changing the rules. Grandfathering is only recognizing that you can't change the rules in the middle of the game.

It is certainly a full power station. Such stations can do very well if their transmitter is located near the center of a major city. WJUC is one that Colonel Flagg long ago labelled a "rimshot".

A 250 watt translator would have to be over 1100 feet HAAT to have equivalent distance to the 60 dBu F(50,50) contour as a 3 kW/100 meter HAAT, and would be unprotected from full power stations.

WJUC is 163.77 km from WNWV, just slightly more than the old rules table in Section 73.213, 163 km, or 162.5 km with rounding under Section 73.208.

WJUC is 105.45 km from WGPR, just slightly more than the old rules table in Section 73.213, 105 km, or 104.5 km with rounding under Section 73.208.

Since the old 73.207 was also designed to allow more assignments 200 kHz away from Class Bs, it does not afford full contour protection, and is more problematic.

WJUC is 71.90 km from WQKL, more than the old rules table in Section 73.213, 64 km, or 63.5 km with rounding under Section 73.208, and with rounding, meets the new 6 kW rules, 72 km, 71.5 with rounding.

Many 3 kW Class A stations are prevented from meaningfully upgrading in these circumstances. A 6 kW Class A would at least have to be quite directional, and they would be better off with 3 kW with advantageous antenna bay mounting.

Wouldn't the Ticket be better off on 105.5 than the current crap, ratings-wise?

when the Ticket's ratings are even lower? No.

Cumulus has put ZERO effort into that station since they got rid of Norm Wamer years ago. It's only there so Mike Greenberg blathering about the Jets and Lakers clears in X number of markets, and because the other formats on 100.7 (syndicated talk and the Zone version 68) did even worse.
