As mentioned in another post, I was going to Chicagoland...so I have been and now back. Miscellaneous radio notes:

WLS 890 is cquam 24/7...looks like HD is tossed out. It was nice to walk out of the Super 8 and see their tower (about 2 miles away) every day.

There is an oddity with WLFM-LP that is licensed to TV channel 6 analog. However, they broadcast in FM stereo, including RDS! I didn't find any video (I doubt there is any), but may have been too far away from the transmitter site. Their slogan is "87.7 FM Chicago's Smooth Jazz". There is nothing illegal about using an FM stereo/RDS generator on a TV station. They would have to observe the TV aural deviation however, so they should be about 7 dB quieter on the the dial.

Ya know, we went to Chicago recently, and I even brought a portable AM/FM radio with me. Never turned the thing on once, mainly for two reasons:

1) I had too much fun spending time with my family to screw with it, and

2) there's nothing worth listening to anyway. It's the same corporate BS you find in any other major market, so why bother?

I do have to admit, John Williams DID wave to me and my family as we passed by the Tribune Tower, but that didn't change my opinion on the decline of WGN Radio.

I was in Chicago a few weeks ago. Drving in I thought Power 92.3 and Kiss 103.5 had some really good jocks. As far as the other stations go, it was just music and announcers. Nothing to take home.
