Nope, not Milt.

Just dawned on me, there was a third who came from WLW to WGN.

Like the other two, he had passed on.

But he did not wear a wig, but was straight man to a delusional duck.

To recap:

3 "old skool" fellas from WLW to WGN. All passed on.
Two wore a "wig" one did not.
One was friends with a duck, two were not.

New clues:
All three were very successful.
Two of the three spent the majority of their time on the TV side of WGN (Easier to do when Radio and TV were at Bradley Place)
One was friends with JP McCarthy.
One had a glass eye.
One insisted, in addition to his primary gig, to doing staff announcing duties (including signing the station on every day), because he wanted something to fall back on if the other gig failed.
Two of the three's work was aimed primarily at kids.
All three were hired by Ward Quaal.

I have the scoop. Cochran will be shelved. 6/30 appears to be his last day, if not sooner (straight from the source).

WGN cans the only personality I listen to anymore (well, occasionally John Williams). I may even ditch the Cubs and go buy Tiger stuff.

I bet that fossil Milt Rosenberg is a goner, too.

I remember when Steve Cochran did mornings at Q95-5 in Detroit. Chancellor / AMFM seemed to like to shuttle talent between WKQI and WLUP back in those days, for whatever reason. Cochran was not a good fit with WKQI's female-leaning Adult CHR format. I believe he landed at WGN very shortly after getting canned from WKQI, which means he's been at WGN for about a decade, if not a bit longer.

It will be interesting to see if WGN plays musical chairs with the schedule. The personality I'm most curious about is Garry Meier. I've never heard his show on WGN, but used to listen to him in PM Drive on WLS semi-occasionally.

I bet McConnell takes over Cochran's time slot. If Willie lands at WGN, I suspect he'll be on during the evening. I would be very surprised if Willie pops up during the workday.

I worked with Randy, and I know what he is capable of. You don't unless you worked with him. I did day in and day out for five years. You haven't the first clue as to what you are talking about. You only know what you have heard about him and Clear Channel. I count it as five incredible years of learning, enjoying the beast radio had to offer and unbelieveable success. Again, unless you worked for Clear Channel you don't really know. Even leaving was great as my seperation package kept me comfortable until I found a new gig and then paid dividends for months afterword. As for McConnell, again, you don't know anything about him, I listened as often as I could and will miss him as he is quite good. So you can offer nothing of substance....better to say nothing.

You mean bankrupt Clear Channel? You mean the company that lived high on the hog after the TC Act of 1996, and is paying the price for its overindulgence today (reminds me of the fat man in Monty Python's "The Meaning of Life")?

You're right, I never worked for Clear Channel or Randy Michaels. I only know, from the other end of the radio, what they have done to this industry. They are two reasons why I have given up terrestrial radio (with very few exceptions) for the IPod and audio on-demand. For years, the big boys of broadcasting got to use technology to their advantage in giving us an inferior product (more and more voice-tracking, automation up the wazoo, loss of truly local content, etc). Now, I get to use technology to my advantage, and I'm not the only one. Thanks to technology, I have alternatives to the shit that litters most of the AM dial today. I don't like what's happening to WGN, but that's okay....I've already gone elsewhere, and I'm not the only one.

Buy hey, you're right. You're a programmer, and you know what I want better than I do. So does Randy, I'll bet. So I should just crawl back in my hole and shut my trap, while the NAB and its member conglomerates tell me what's good for me, and what I should and shouldn't listen to. After all, listeners are just stupid sheep to be pawned off to the snake-oil salesmen who are selling those wonderful "shit-yer-fat" pills, right?

Willie's staying in Cincy: http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20100614/ENT11/6150357/Cunningham-staying-at-WLW

Quote:
Bill Cunningham says he's staying at WLW-AM (700) under a new contract being worked out "in the next day or two," which would allow him to resume his top-rated noon talk show later this week.

"I had to resolve in my mind where I wanted to be, and I've decided I want to stay in Cincinnati," Cunningham said Monday.

Cunningham, 62, was not on WLW-AM Monday or last Wednesday because of his refusal to commit to staying at the station when his contract expires this month.

Yep, I heard Bill C is staying at "The Big One". Wonder why Clear Channel didn't keep WLW on XM? They (CC) still have a chunk of SatRad bandwidth that they're not using (probably just to piss-off XM as they can't use it either) - wonder why they did what they did?
