Anybody remember the CBC program "Brave New Waves" that aired on 89.9 out of Windsor?

It was hosted by Brent Bambury and came on at midnight Mondays through Fridays.

Started around 1985 and played alternative rock from the UK, US and Canada before it all became mainstream in the '90s. There was a profile segment featuring a different artist nightly. Half a dozen songs by each with commentary by Bambury in between. They even had listener write-in contests (no e-mail back then). One I recall was "Hardcore Haiku". The winning entry from I believe St. Clair Shores was read on the air and they got a t-shirt by mail.

I'm sure it turned on others like myself listening afar from Cleveland to Flint to what was happening musically elsewhere. I never otherwise would have been aware of Cocteau Twins.

I remember BNW very well and enjoyed the hell out of that program. Canada Live and Tonic are good Radio 2 programs in their own right, but they don't make up for the irreverance of Brave New Waves. Wouldn't it be nice if CBC and other broadcasters had the money and other resources to put this type of programming back on the air? Ah, there I go dreaming again.

This is exactly the sweet programming that should be on the HD-2 channels - niche, top-notch programming that you look forward to and will tune-into religiously. They used to do goodies like this on XM radio, and that's one thing terrestrial stations SHOULD copy and put on their HD sub channels.
