Brian made a big deal about Block living in Pittsburgh but focusing on Toledo. It was a valid point from him a few months ago, but now that Wilson lives in Virginia, isn't that hypocritical?

Best not to think about such things. Unless, of course, you want your brain to explode and take out a few city blocks with it.

So did anyone even bother putting on SPD when all hell was breaking loose Saturday night/early Sunday?

Only to confirm that they were running network programming and not mentioning the storm. They were not, other than the required EBS announcements. Great public service.

K100 was the only station I know of that was streaming 13ABC news feed and covering the storm.

Both KISS and The River streamed WTOL and their signals reach much farther than WSPD at that time of day. Good call on CC's part.

Did not know that. WSPD should have cross promoted the coverage .

Wilson made some excuse about not being able to control paid programming and his staff is too small to break in on a Sunday morning. He also said he's going to management to try and change that.

Weak.

Does this mean he'll actually be in Toledo for half a day or so?

You can look at Mediabase and pretty much see who covered the storms.
Looks like River was on top of it Saturday evening. There are only a few songs played in the 10 and 11 PM hours.
Kiss has no music from 2:30 to 3:30 AM so they were on top of the 2nd round anyway.
K100 with no music from 10:40 PM until after Midnight, then again 1:45 to 3:45 AM

Nothing from Star. Looks like Monroe's hometown station whatever, never mentioned the storm there.

Kudos to River, Kiss and K100 for serving the community!

The majority of people who listen to talk radio these days do so for one reason and one reason only....to hear someone else, someone behind a microphone and a transmitter, validate their opinion. They don't care about credibility, as long as they're hearing what they want to hear.

The rest of the folks listening to talk radio do so because they desperately need someone to get mad at. These are the people who bitterly disagree with the host, but feel some primal need to raise their blood pressure. They also don't care about credibility, because if their nemesis of the air disappears, who will they have to be mad at?

Let's face it - credibility in talk radio disappeared a long time ago, right along with credibility in TV network news. I knew that the day I watched CNN play the same 15-second b-roll of a shaved-headed Britney Spears at least 100 times, like it was an actual news story.

It's all entertainment folks - no different than what P.T. Barnum gave us under the big top. Come see the bearded lady folks, and are ya pissed off at your boss and need to work off some aggression? Well then, pick up a bag o' balls and try to dunk the heckling clown while he makes ugly jokes about your wife. Yep, it's all entertainment, and the bigwigs know it. Credibility? That word isn't in their vocabulary.

Who, me? I never was entertaining, and was never hired for being entertaining, so how could I possibly be fired for not being entertaining. :razz

No, I was simply pointing out what entertains us today - the WWE, "Win it in a Minute", "Hell's Kitchen", Jerry Springer, Maury Povich, the Zapruder film set to Benny Hill music, etc. I hate to say it, because the man is and always be one of my idols, but J.P. McCarthy wouldn't be able to cut it with the type of show he did in this day and age. Nobody wants to hear goodhearted, informative radio anymore. They just want to hear someone tell them why their neighbor's an asshole.

The people who do want something better know where to find it, thanks to the internet and the MP3 player, and they're willing to do a little homework to search for it.

You might want to rent Paddy Chayefsky's 1976 film "Network" (the movie where Peter Finch plays a news anchor who gains new fame by telling viewers to open their windows and yell I'm mad as hell, and I'm not going to take it anymore!). This flick was so far ahead of its time, it's scary (and you'll love the ending)!

Toledo's News Station, WSPD - they used to be top of the food chain primary entry point EBS station for all of NW Ohio, but then they didn't even have a working generator when the big power outage hit the Midwest and NE on August 14th a few years back.

It really, really pains me to say this, but frickin K100 is the best News station in Toledo when the Sh*t hits the fan. They were the ONLY Toledo station on air during the August 14th power blackout, last week they had Blizzard Bill on the air when power went out in Fulton, Wood, and Ottawa Counties and all anybody had was portable AM/FM radios as nobody has wasted their money on a portable battery-operated HDTV that runs for 30 minutes per charge.
My money is on K100 and Blizzard hot air Bill.
I was surprised the River and 92-5 had a ws tag-team going - but there's no reason they couldn't patch WSPD to the River - crap, they could run a fricken cable to the next damn studio if they had to.
WSPD - such a said waste of a heritage station - Toledo's 1st station, now lower on my list than WNWT.
