105.5 WQQO Toledo

A place to go for those of you who wish to discuss happenings in OH, IN, IL, WI, and Ontario. OSU sucks, by the way.

After over a year 105.5 is back to broadcasting in stereo! Now, how about a new format? Pretty please? :P

Now that Party 103.3 is on the air, leaves me wondering Q105's days are numbered?

"If Cumulus is insistent on having a very female friendly station in its local cluster, here's what they need to do to 105.5:
- Go a different route in mornings
- Bring back the "Star 105" brand name
- Flip to an upbeat AC or retro hits format that is centered in the 90's and 00's (a few 80's songs and a few newer songs can be included, too)
- Bring back the Pat Garrett voiceovers..."

I agree with all of this except for the STAR 105 name... Please let's leave that in the past and start fresh with a clean slate.

Party 103.3 is really a non-factor in the grand scheme of radio. Outside of The Who can talk the loudest grubby finger nails in the morning show. It's 100% syndicated outside of that mess in the morning.

Oh, and it's 165 watts that do not cover the entire market broadcasting from a dining room.

Nobody cares.

If true, that's pathetic. The owners can afford a studio in Toledo. They're not exactly new to the business of broadcasting.

As to 105.5 broadcasting in mono, that's something that doesn't make any sense. I was there, briefly, about 35 years ago. The audio processing on 105FM 3WM sounded fantastic. It was simple, but set up properly. Why the station would be in mono is a mystery. Have we really regressed that far?

Hey WOHO, didn't big Lew have an Orban 8200? With a set of Texars in front of it?

I think Cumulus's engineering team fixed 105.5 and it's now back in stereo.

I don’t think Party 103.3 will have any impact on Q or Kiss. I’ll be shocked if this gets much higher than 1.0 share.

Potty 103.3 makes Q105 sound like CKLW of 1970.

The only thing that sets Party apart from Kiss and Q105 is that it's slightly older, with many songs from the 2000's, 2010's and a few 90's here and there.

In other words, "Move along, nothing to see here...and kindly don't bring it up again" :rollin

In 1987, and long before that, the former 3WM transmitting in mono would've been considered an urgent situation. Lew would not have allowed it to go on for long, and there were probably "redundancies" already in the rack to prevent an issue like this. I worked for stations that had a backup for the backup. Nowadays, we drive around listening to the flimsy internet based STL getting the hiccups, and it's no big deal.

I'd love to see alternative rock on 103.3, heck I'd even take the zone back just to have something other then just stale WXKR and WIOT.

WIOT is Toledo's second-worst radio station after Potty 103.3. Yes, I rate it lower than Q105, 1230 and 106.5. I like rock music and it's not even in my car's presets anymore. Whoever described it as "200 of the most overplayed rock songs thrown in a blender with a beyond stale morning show" was 100 percent correct.

I'd like WIOT better if they played more newer rock instead of playing the same 200 songs from pre-2010, like they did 10 years ago.

Colonel Flagg, finally back on the board. Correct- "Love Note" days in 83-84, had nice processing with great bass, and NO processing fatigue so you could listen to 105.5 all day, and decent cume. Colonel, I'm too damn old to remember. I might have to drag some slide photos out. In '79, I am thinking audio processing was done at the transmitter and not all on Pickle Road to the STL? Later on, in the rack. I'll be damned if I can remember what fed the FM Orban?
