Ron Sobczak passes
Ron Sobczak passed away last night at 75 after a long illness. He was best known for his runs at WOHO, WCWA and WRQN until 2011. Sad to see another radio legend gone.

Re: Ron Sobczak passes
I worked with Ron at Fort Industry Square, when Frazier Reams owned WCWA and WIOT. Ron was PD at WCWA when they were Oldies.
I only wish I had seen the Go Fund Me page, created by Cliff Smithers, raising funds to transport Ron from the Cleveland Clinic, back to a hospital in Toledo. Apparently, Ron was basically stranded at the Cleveland Clinic for months, with few and infrequent visitors. It's a sad story, and had I known, I certainly would have helped.

Yeah, Cliff said Ron was basically depressed in Cleveland, with almost no family or friends. Cliff was certain he'd give up if they didn't move him back. They were able to get him back home to Toledo, but being on the floor for two days with massive blood loss meant that it would have been a miracle for him to fully recover. He pretty much was told he had to use a feeding tube and be bedridden for the rest of his life, which I'm sure he didn't want.Colonel Flagg wrote: ↑Sun Jun 19, 2022 10:37 pmI worked with Ron at Fort Industry Square, when Frazier Reams owned WCWA and WIOT. Wasn't he the voice of Raceway Park before it closed?

Yes, as well as another horse racing track in the Detroit area until his health failed as well as a security guard at the Casino. I met him there once. Great guy.
