Post by Localnewsisdead » Tue Apr 04, 2023 7:34 pm

9&10 hired a new anchor for their evening and late night newscasts. Here is the info posted to their fb page:

Join us in welcoming our new News Anchor Christina Aguayo!

Christina has a passion for storytelling and brings lots of energy to our newsroom. Previously, she has worked in areas such as El Paso, Fort Wayne, and Toledo. We could not be more excited to have her join our team! You can catch Christina on the evening and late-night newscasts.

Northern Michigan sounds like a real utopia compared to the other three shitholes she's worked in.

There are actually several new faces on 'vine & 10, but the geniuses in marketing there have yet to post them on the stations' website.

Seems fb or nuthin' these days...

Agreed on their to-do list for publicizing/posting regarding new hires and departures is running behind.

It's either the VUit or NewsON app (or maybe both) where I've been seeing quite consistently a photo showing their weather team--with two of the four being many months departed from the station. Sure, Tom O'Hare and (Cadillac native) Michael Stevens are still with The Comma, but Madison Ryke left in Sept. and Austin Lowe has been gone almost a year.

Then again, I may be the only human utilizing those apps to watch content from 910 (previously known as 9 & 10 News), and it's only a couple times a month.

Cheers! ~~ Statmanmi

The new evening anchor at THE COMMA seems very talented. I hope she meshes well with that stud... Adam Bartlemay......

And please please please .... get Bill Froelich off the morning news on THE COMMA...

Oddly enough, right after you posted this, the Caddy kids acknowledged some of their recent staff additions on the stations' web site.

Updating appears to have happened on their NewsON app presence as well... the old wx team pic has been replaced by a previous-logo pic touting their mobile app sans any staffers.

FWIW - before recently telling Charter / Spectrum to take their $110+/mo TV service and shove it, I investigated the live stream apps available for the NW lower MI TV stations so that we could still get 'local' news. Though there may be more, these are somewhat usable apps as it pertains to those local newscasts:
  • NewsON - 7&4 AND 'vine&10 - live and previously aired newscasts
  • STIRR - 7&4 only - live only newscasts
  • VUiT - 'vine&10' only - live and previously aired newscasts, locally-produced segments / programs, special programming
All 3 of these apps have some fairly irritating technical issues - especially during 'live' segments - that result in the newscast 'hanging'; some during what appear to be commercial breaks, others just randomly. Much more reliable are prerecorded segments, but that takes STIRR out of the equation (but if you can navigate that app's crappy interface, 7&4 live is best watched there).

All 3 apps may give the impression that someone at the stations is inept or absent or the whole online presence through these apps is an afterthought.

YMMV

UPDATE / EDIT:

-- 7&4's live newscasts disappeared from STIRRl ast week, but are back on this morning (7/17), now (8/2) followed by TND again,
-- There are major technical issues w/NewsON's 'live' streams of both 7&4 & vine&10; pretty much unwatchable.
-- VUiT is the most stable of the 3 platforms; plus, it also includes area stations from Alpena, Saginaw, Marquette(2), Ishpeming, Lansing, Detroit and Green Bay.

If anyone here knows of other AppleTV or Android TV apps that work for live streaming northern MI TV stations, please post them here. Thanks!

As much as I sh...t on THE COMMA, at least their are better at updating their NewsTeam page. 7 and 4 have four new people, and you can't find them anywhere on their website. Cripes they had Ireland Viecount on their till last week and she left in May...

Are you sure about that? Eric Lloyd is still listed as a reporter on their website. He left over two weeks ago per his twitter page.
