102.7 WDKL HD and all Air1 translators off air since last Friday

The technical side of broadcasting. Think IBOC is a sham? Talk about it here! How about HDTV? Post DX reports here as well.

102.7 WDKL HD and all Air1 translators off air since last Friday

Post by MWmetalhead » Mon Aug 05, 2019 7:30 am

I wonder if WDKL is prepping for a move to the WDRQ / WDMK tower in Oak Park?

The HD signal of 102.7 K-Love has been M.I.A. since at least Friday of last week.

All Air1 translators fed by WDKL HD2 are also out of commission. K106.3 can once again be heard with little to no interference across the M59 corridor. :)

Been enjoying Ann Arbor's W4 in my neck of the woods. When 102.7 broadcasts in analog, my car radio picks up 102.9 loudly and clearly to Orchard Lake Rd, and I still get a listenable signal to Greenfield Rd. Listening to the station right now on my Sony clock radio.

The loud and clear range extends a good 10 miles farther eastward than normal, and listenable range extends at least 15 miles farther east.

If they do move to the legacy tower that Bob Liggett had built for WCLS, 102.7 will be essentially a full market signal for the first time. Not the best full market signal, but a full market signal nevertheless.

Is THAT where they got the idea for the 486-SX?

I’ve been tuned in to Sarnia’s K-106.3 and it actually sounds good hopefully the translators will go away and stay away.
106.3 is an absolute joke for an active rock station, even for Sarnia.

It will be interesting to see how reception of 102.7 vs 102.9 changes when this move is complete.

Just heard WIOG 102.5 on the Delco within 10 miles of the licensed WDKL 102.7 site. It faded in and out but was always there.

Better tell 106.3 to change their logo then. It mentions the best new rock. I rarely hear anything current on the station. They also used to target Port Huron more, now the only thing having to do on this side of the border is the temperature being given in Fahrenheit.p

Sarnia-Port Huron is pretty sad radiowise.

WCPZ 102.7 Sandusky, OH.

One of the very "short spaced" facilities the FCC made short spaced under new rules in the early 1960s. Both WBRB-FM and WLEC-FM were on AM towers, with Lake Erie and Canada in between. They were both protected to the 60 dBu, and didn't overlap over Canada or over Lake Erie. Perfectly OK at the time.

WCPZ built a new tower out near the Turnpike and US-250 several years ago, moving from the short AM tower on US-6 near the Cedar Point turnoff

WWWW also moved further away, by about three miles. The HAAT is also less. I don't know why they abandoned the gravel pit location. They still have a shorter AUX there. Heard WIOG again tonight.
