Old School 7&4

Post by fmdxguy5678 » Thu Jan 25, 2018 7:34 pm

I started this thread up so I couldn't derail the 9&10 thread into a 7&4 one. Anyway, here's some links to some old 7&4 stuff I've uploaded to YouTube:

Here's an odd mix of 7&4 newscasts from 2005 and 2002 (not exactly "old school", but a few years down the road? We'll see.):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7an7N5H88h0

And here's 2 parts of a near-complete 6 PM newscast from the Newswatch days in 1993:

2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n8-e_YmzYBw

Thanks for posting. I liked the short clip of the 7&4 vs. 9&10 basketball game near the end.

No problem! I found that one clip interesting as well.

That's great! It's too bad news stations don't have those friendly get-togethers anymore.

Also, seeing Mike Fornes was a real trip. I've known him for several years, he hasn't changed much at all! When did the 'Cheboygan Bureau' close? Sinclair should start that up again for the Straits Area.

The 90's or the 2000's stuff? As crazy as it sounds, I'm still in high school, so I was really little during the days of Dave Walker, Bill Froehlich, Greg MacMaster among others during their time on 7&4 (although I remember it just a little bit). I wasn't even alive for the days of Jerry Meyer and Maureen McGuire! :rollin

Oh thank god...I thought I was the youngest here at 30 years old.. LOL

I don't really remember the "Newswatch" moniker & set. My recollection starts with the "News Channel" moniker, but I don't remember the news intros.

I might have already implied this before, but my memory of 7&4 starts with the "Coverage You Can Count On" days. If I had any memory of the intro, it's probably very fuzzy. But I do remember those days.

I barely remember News Channel days and the ampersand in the 7&4 logo (before the NBC peacock replaced it)

Alright, more links for you people.

From 2003, here's a clip of a 7&4 report on the 77th annual National Cherry Fest in TC:

And here's a little something from 29&8 - Rita Melotti Live (I'm assuming) from 1996:

At 29, I thought I was the youngest here! I don't know why I didn't record some of this stuff years ago. I've had a VCR since I could walk. Neat stuff anyway.

I did, but my parents always taped over it later.... All I have now is whatever I was able to either transfer to, or record direct from the antenna, to a TV Card in my PC (about 2004-ish)

Years ago, 7&4 had an anchor named Johnny Williams. He used to swat flies while reading the news.

That's the one infamous side effect of the northern Michigan lifestyle.

For three days in January 2017 (15th, 16th, 19th) and one night in September 2017 (22nd), I managed to receive KDKA Pittsburgh from 202 miles away indoors!

Yes,They had a circle painted on the floor with several quadrants displaying rain, snow, sunny, cloudy, etc. He would put the turtle in the center of the circle and see where he walked to. Sometimes he was correct!

Is this real or is this an inside joke crafted by certain Buzzboard members that I've been excluded from?

Now I feel really old. I worked at TV 7&4 way back in 1991-92 in master control/production. It was a good place to learn the basics of working in TV. We could do a little bit of everything and get our hands on the equipment. Back then, the main anchors were Jerry Meyer, Maureen Maguire, Dave Walker, Dave Barrons on weather and Charlie Whinham with sports.
