Does Spike really still do phone scams? Those have always been horrible and Spike has never been funny. I don't understand how he has been so successful.

These phone scams are appointment listening. Give the people what they want when they expect it. You’re not always going to hit a home run but when you do they’ll remember it forever.

You’re welcome.
The idea that anyone wants this type of programming should be considered specious.
Do they or do they not listen? Those that do are signaling that they want it. Too bad.

Actually, the only regular listener to Mojo that I'm aware of is a mid-30's auto mechanic, who reflexively turns on 95.5 as a part of his morning ritual (which also includes turning on the air compressor). This fellow, is essentially tone-deaf. No kidding...

Clearly, radio is dead and "they" are not listening. If "they" were, Fat Tom would have proceeded with his plans to syndicate his show.

Ummmmm...it’s called entertainment on CHR radio.
In this day and age, "CHR Radio" and "entertainment" are mutually exclusive! I can't stand to listen to CHR anymore because the music is just flat awful. And "talent"... if you can actually call it that, is also awful on most CHR stations. Most morning shows sound like a bunch of tarts with single digit IQ's to me. But then, I grew up when radio WAS entertaining and not stupid and the music didn't give you an headache in 30 seconds.

But anywhooo... these bits are either provided from a show prep company or done in house with co-workers. IMO, these phone pranks I hear are usually pretty stupid. I would conclude that most "normal"** people would hang up immediately if you think about it.

** Whatever "normal" is anymore... quite subjective I suppose.

But we aren't the gullible public, so I personally can't really judge how entertaining it is because my opinion on this matter is biased.
This is true. The fact that we know how radio works from the inside really clouds the "entertainment value" for us to some extent. We nitpick things the average listener doesn't even hear, like audio processing, for example. We hear it but they never even think about it. As an engineer, I always did my best to make sure my stations sounded as clean and natural as possible. Nowdays, almost every station sounds like they're running through a fuzzbox to me, which I think is just digital audio in a nutshell.

The bar has been set low... *really* low. I can't understand how many dumb TV shows are popular as I think they are the ultimate in "cringeworthy". Radio is just as bad in this post-consolidation age.

Good for you. Out of 4.3 million people in the metro area how many do you know? I bet it’s not even 0.00000000001%...

BKRDPM,exactly how do South-East Michiganders and Michigeese sound ? As for the potty-mouthed "ladies," one aspect of being a lunch-bucket area is that the women try-and often succeed at- out-boying the boys in terms of general ugliness and profanity .
