98.7-Style Albums

Post by Bobbert » Sun Dec 16, 2018 11:34 am

What non-greatest hits albums do you think will provide the most music for 98.7?

I'll start things off with:

Fleetwood Mac (self-titled 1975 album)
Rumours, Fleetwood Mac
Whitney Houston (self-titled 1985 album)

Wheels thought there was more money to be made in the modern rock format (with at least two other stations on it full time and two other stations also playing new rock in fhe playlist) instead of classic rock which, if memory serves, was only offered by WCSX at that point. But the rumor is CBS wouldn't invest because they wanted SJ on that frequency. Or so the story goes.

Smooth Jazz, was also being considered at 97.1 at that point as well after Star 97 “The Greatest Hits Of The 70’s tanked and it almost did happen. The first few ratings books Star did crappy and never did well with The 70’s format, it was only a short lived trend across the country, I do believe the first station that tried the 70’s was in The Chicago market the rim shot station at 107.9 WYSY I do believe were the calls.

Smooth Jazz would have been a great choice after WJOI went under. Wouldn't have been as jarring a change.

Its been awhile obviously, but I almost remember Star skewing in the soft rock direction.

They only are playing "Crazy For You" by Madonna for some odd reason.

The iHeart Breeze stations in Sacramento and Philadelphia and Cox Media's Easy 93.1 in Miami play Live To Tell, Cherish, I'll Remember, Take A Bow, Secret, La Isla Bonita, Crazy For You, Borderline, Like A Prayer.

Maybe they don't want to interfere with WOMC? WOMC mostly plays Like A Prayer, Into the Groove, Dress You Up, Lucky Star, Papa Don't Preach, Open Your Heart, Borderline, Express Yourself, Vogue.

So, there are plenty of songs they could play without interference.

One of These Nights and The Long Run will probably have a few songs played too. Both albums had three Top 10 hits.
