Heard them today with a fringe level signal in Manistee (with some M106.3 mixed in; there was some enhancement from the south as Star was on 105.7 instead of WAPL). Wonder what their format will be (Christmas music for now?)

Speaking of Christmas music, Easy 95.5 has gone all-Christmas as of today

I was able to get a little more of a listen to 106.3 and it sounds like it's going by "106.3 the Moon" with a format not unlike 106.9 the Lodge in Door County

Make that 106.3 The Mitten where it is all about the music.

The new format is AAA.

Kinda makes sense since the owner had 93.9 The River out of Mio 20 years ago.

Interesting station. It's got a mix of the kind of stuff you'd hear on KHQ 15-20 years ago, indie rock, and occasionally something like Werewolves of London thrown in. This is far more listenable for me than 101.9 The Bay is, but that's probably another one of my unpopular opinions.

And about a similar signal footprint. In Manistee, 101.9 and 106.3 seem to be about the same signal strength

Given the territory the station covers, Adult Album Alternative is not a bad choice - assuming the signal into TC & the immediately surrounding area is actually decent.

As a standalone signal that likely has questionable coverage in the east bay as one heads up U.S. 31 toward Torch Lake, I question the ability of this station to be viable.

This is not akin to 104.5 Bob FM (another Class A signal), as Bob FM has a very strong signal in & around downtown Traverse City.

The former 92.9 The Breeze tried a somewhat similar format to that of The Mitten for a period of time, and even with a 100 kW signal, had difficulty producing ratings. Granted, The Breeze was horrendously executed.

Radio's downfall has been under-investing in its core competency and becoming distracted by delusions of grandeur by thinking development of a half-assed national digital strategy will somehow put it on par with the Facebooks and Googles of the world.

Could use a better country station up here to compete with WTCM. I'm still wanting a DUKE FM here....

The music selection is far better than what The Breeze had. It could still use some tweaking though. What stands out the most to me is that a lot of these songs used to be heard on stations here and I haven't really heard them anywhere else since. The newer stuff is odd for a station in Traverse City, but I think it fits.

From what I've been able to tell, it sounds quite a bit like 106.9 the Lodge over in Door County.

Forgive me, that is not AAA. It's a weird "Mom Safe" hot ac from 2007 with AAA liners about the variety and H*** playlist. In reality; 1200 songs from a variety of mainstream genres.

I go to music festivals with the founder of AAA, this is not A3.

After seeing your description of AAA and the Lloyd Benson rant, I'm curious as to how you would classify WTTS in Bloomington, TC Talks.

I don't recall the Breeze being anything like 106.3, as it it described here.

There are only 2 people who could have "invented" AAA. The first AAA station I remember was the highly sophisticated but short-lived 95.7 WBGK Milwaukee, programmed by John Sebastian. The other is 98.9 WMMO Orlando, created by the great Cary Pall. If anyone "invented" it, it was one of those two characters.

Beyond that, this rates right up there with "Al Gore invented the internet... Or, even worse, "Fred Jacobs invented Classic Rock."

Let's also not forget MSP's Cities 97, which is a legendary AAA that's more of a Hot AC these days. I see they now play Taylor Swift. :rollin

1977 Boulder Colorado KBCO pre dates any of those stations which where still AOR or CHR at the time. I've worked in this genre since 1992, how many AAA stations have you been involved with?

KFOG, WXRT, and WTTS all came later, consulted or programmed by Dennis Constantine. What's your data? You suspender slapping "I recall hearing about that there AAA radio...."

Back to the conversation, this 106.3 isn't AAA, it's a half assed Hot AC

TC-

If you have access to the playlists of WXRT, KFOG, and WXRV, you'll see this is "Today's" AAA...

That is, if you have access to those lists...

"Suspender snapping" is a great metaphor for someone who posts a link to a 17 year old newspaper article to back to their claim. I can't wait to hear this station and see what the deal is. Does it stream? Is there a website yet?
