WKLT = Old Fogies

KLT just kills me. The music is so dated. I'm not really into that 70's / southern rock thing. How many times do I have to listen to Bad Company or Foghat, or Led Zeppelin? Just a total trainwreck!

Completely agree - they’ve sounded this way for too long - old and stale. It’s part of the reason I listen to Rock 105 when I’m in that area.

To me KLT is the stereo-typical classic rock station. I'd want to hear largely 80's rock and less of the 70's / southern rock. The sound is really dated and stale like you said. The overall sound of the station stinks. Time for some new voices on there...

Most successful classic rock stations now a days are playing predominantly 80’s music, scaling back the 70’s music big time and even more so the 60’s music. Southern rock is rarely played. Starting to even hear early 90’s grunge like Pearl Jam, Soundgarden and Nirvana sometimes. KLT hasn’t got that message yet. And yes, Teri Ray has got to go...

With the increases Rock 105 has been getting in the ratings, I would love to see how KLT is doing in comparison. I totally agree, Terri Ray is useless. But that's what happens with people from another state running the show.

I have to mention that their website is pretty useless. It's largely ads and promos. Nothing about the music they play.

Click on their "Listen Now" and there's a playlist. Pretty crappy one, I'd say.

Anybody notice a processing change on WKLT/WKLZ? Sounds digital and distorted. It was one of my favorite sounding stations just a few years back but between the processing and music, it's becoming more difficult to enjoy listening to.

I was told WKLZ 98.9 had an 8100 with an XT2. Not sure if that has changed or maybe they have "upgraded" to a digital STL .

I rarely listened to KLT growing up. Maybe because of being a Cheboygan kid, and just about everyone in Cheboygan and surrounding communities listened to WGFM, I think in support of Del Reynolds being the owner. If it wasn't WFGM, it was Lite 96 out of Petoskey. Or WCBY if you wanted the oldies.

I was unable to hear WGFM /The Bear frequently in the 90's, but whenever I had the chance, I felt the station sounded superior to KLT.

The thing I remember most about KLT during the early 90's was its insistence on playing a new Steve Miller Band song in heavy rotation that was a total & complete stiff straight out of the box. The crappy album featuring that song (it was the title single) was released in 1993 and has only sold 258,000 copies. Heard that shitty song ALL THE TIME on KLT back-to-back summers.

Radio's downfall has been under-investing in its core competency and becoming distracted by delusions of grandeur by thinking development of a half-assed national digital strategy will somehow put it on par with the Facebooks and Googles of the world.

And then Kid Rock came out with "Summertime in Northern Michigan" and I think EVERY SINGLE RADIO STATION north of US10, regardless of their format, played that song 10 times a day for a month.

Hate that song and it's sad that is has infected many different genres of music radio.

Agreed. The first two times it was ok. After that...nope

I remember "Wide River" also got a decent amount of airplay on Top 40 radio, too. It peaked at #7 on the Billboard rock charts.

Totally agreed on "All Summer Long". It was Kid Rock's Jump the Shark song.

I lived up in Gaylord for a while in the mid 90's. Teri Ray had just started on KLT/Z when I was there, and she was bad then. KLT/Z has always had a severely tight playlist. Last time I was up where they came in a couple years back, it sounded like they were time-stuck in 1994. Teri was on and sounded just as nerve-wrackingly awful as ever.

Terri Ray started in 1984. That's 24 years too many.

Although I am not a listener of the rehashed WKLT, I am going to say this;

Terri does a great job connecting with her listeners. Her listeners are likely 55+, and if you are not that old, you may not like her.

Terri is a troubadour for showing up to work for 34 years. She knows her product, she sounds rock and roll, and she gets the job done.

Given the blowhards, and the many other clowns in market 192, she deserves some credit for being one of the best.

Yeah, I definitely know some 50+ year olds she resonates with. But otherwise, she doesn't interest me nor does KLT's tiny playlist.

Don't really dig the "stationality" including the on-air personalities.

My bad... it was a new morning guy that started up there then. Memory of that era has a lot of blocking. Some of the worst times of my entire life. Hard to believe that Teri was there another ten years before that!
