Nielsen Audio ratings: 12+ numbers for spring

Post by MWmetalhead » Mon Aug 07, 2017 7:00 pm

A soft book for 106 KHQ and a downright lousy book for Z93.

Blarney Stone apparently is a non-subscriber. If they did subscribe, I suspect KLT was easily be in second place. 103.5/93.5 WTCM-FM is in first place by a mile over everyone else.

I wonder - are the numbers for "WQEZ-FM" applicable to 95.5 MHz or 106.3 MHz?

So TC-Petoskey ratings are back now? Interesting...
WSRT 106.7 - You may have reached "The Peak", but you still struggle to climb the mountain of success.

Whoo-hoo! The ratings are back... Mostly.

Now, we can see which stations need a format change and BADLY.

I think Bob FM needs to can the butt rock and be a more-straightforward adult hits station.

I do wonder how KLT stacks up to Rock 105/95-5 these days. Then again, Smitty was still there.

Looks like SiriusXM and non-commercial stations take a lot of shares. Of the non-subscribers, likely only KLT is getting any noticeable ratings

TCM dominates because the new counties in the market would probably be a 15-20 share for TCM if each of those counties were measured individually.

TCM-FM's numbers are in line with historical norms if you go back 20 years. I wouldn't call this an extraordinary book for them. I suspect their numbers received a bit of a lift when 101.9 dumped Country.

96.7's 1.6 share was a bit of a surprise; they apparently have decent listenership in the south end of the market.

The Interlochen stations get big numbers. Smile probably has 2 or 3 shares to its name. WLJN-FM probably has 2 or 3 shares, too.

Fuel FM and The Fox? Don't know.

ESPN 106.7 probably has about a 1 or 1.5 share.

101.9 is probably good for about a 3 share.

I suspect KLT has at least a 7 share.

I dislike WTCM. I find that "new country" they play to be downright awful...with exceptions though. And I just don't like their sound. More reason to get a DUKE FM in the north. I do like WGDN but I can't pull it in well in Grayling...though think they stream online.

I would have to guess the Fox is probably ahead of the Bay, mostly due to the Fox having a superior signal (not even counting 92.5!)

I would guess WQEZ is 106.3 only. Black Diamond's Cheboygan-only stations are also in that share range.

Notice several stations have the wrong formats listed.

Is 101.9's signal that bad in the Grand Traverse region?

When I visited Traverse City in March of 2016, both 94.3 and 101.9 came in like gangbusters. Driving south, 101.9's reception was still healthy near Cadillac. 94.3 due to its directional signal was very fuzzy - virtually unlistenable.

Perhaps I caught 101.9 on a good day? :)

You are correct regarding WQEZ, I think. I just remembered that the format change occurred on St. Patrick's Day (before this ratings book started), and that the WQEZ call letters were moved to 106.3/Onaway shortly thereafter. So, if the Nielsen folks have their act together - which isn't always the case - the numbers attributed to "WQEZ" should indeed be for Easy 106.3.

With WCBY (1240/100.7) and WCHY (97.7) showing up, it makes sense that Easy 106.3 would also make the book.

Any guesses how many listeners 98.5 WUPS has in that market?

In terms of cume? No idea.

In terms of AQH share, my guess would be somewhere between a 1.0 and 1.5.

For reasons that escape me, WUPS does seem to be making an effort to increase their visibility /brand awareness in the Grand Traverse region. 98.1 The Bear (local sister station) offers a similar format.

I'm used to the Manistee area, where 94.3 is usually stronger than 101.9. The tag team of WMTE and WDEZ doesn't help WLDR's signal in the Manistee area.
