If U of M really wanted public broadcasting, why didn’t they build 58 when UHF became more viable? The allotment was clearly reserved for the university. Did it require a null towards Detroit because 56 is close on the dial?
WFUM seemed like a consolation prize. The transmitter location in Goodrich was probably intentional to cover as much as Detroit as possible. I think every cable system in Oakland carried it, some in Macomb and Wayne did too.

As has been said, the northern part of the Flint/Tri-Cities market was covered by Delta College and CMU. They didn’t need a third PBS.

It only had to be 20 miles from WTVS 56 analog on West 11 Mile Rd. From a modest second story AGL, you can see the tower lights from Southfield on a clear Night in that Cedar Bend Dr. area.

"Sesame Street" ended on WJRT 12 on October 31, 1975 (which started at 8:00 AM Monday thru Friday). On November 3, 1975, "Good Morning America" debuted for 2 hours with former actor turn anchor David Hartman, Rona Barrett & Nancy Dussault.

Sesame Street aired on ABC? Plus, GMA has been around so much longer than 1975.

There's so many Flint TV stations that have a horrible signal on an antenna. I live in Lapeer and I should have no problem receiving 12 or 5, but they have the worst 1.0 signals. Just an assumption but I think these stations have deals with the cable companies around the area to FORCE people into paying for their channels and by having the worst signals ever. F That. ATSC 3.0 sounds good on paper but they will probably make you pay a fee just to watch those ones too. Not everyone wants to pay $200 a month for cable.

I'm quite surprised with this. I'm just outside of Memphis with a rooftop stack, and receive WJRT, WDCQ, WEYI, WBSF, and WSMH with ease, as well as the entire Detroit market, CBET-DT, Global Sarnia, CHCH-DT-2 London, and most of the time, CFPL-DT London. WNEM is the only station that's out of reach.
