Talk about bang for the watts...

Elevation (WNMC's stick is 538 feet above average terrain) and an empty frequency does wonders.

Also forgot one station:
104.1 - WVGR Grand Rapids (96kW @ 105 mi)

Also in the last week I noticed radio station coming in really well, one day it was from the north(forgot what day it was) , wlxt 96.3 was killing Wkla 96.3 here in north mason county on freesoil road. Also I was able to listen to z93 wjzq in Muskegon one night this week too. On the 3rd all the Wisconsin stations were booming in like local during a good chunk of the day from Millwaukee and green bay. Killing over any distant stations here 104.5, 105.3, (96.3 (hits 96) in some areas on the way into ludington), and others too. Been an interesting week with the fm band here.

WQLQ 99.9 MHz was booming into Park Township (near Holland State Park) last weekend. Much stronger signal than any of the eastern Kent County stations (WBFX, WTNR, WLAV), WMRR or WMUS.

Wqlq comes in quite often up here near ludington too. Also Wkfr 103.3 comes in weak and in mono but listenable almost 80% of the time on the yagi fm antenna I have mounted.

MW, was Chicago or Millwaukee coming in at Holland when you where there? 99.1, 103.7, 92.3 or even GB stations 101.1 or 99.7. Curious about what comes on there as it’s so close to gr stations but still on the lake shore.

WQLQ is commonly heard up to Ludington on almost any given day, so Holland is basically just barely the fringe of their usual coverage area. It should be expected. And if it's after sunset when the lake breeze dies, shore-parallel conditions take over, and it will be even stronger, given that BBN doesn't cause issues.

Lite 96.3 is one of the biggest signals in the Great Lakes. Here in Fremont, it's a regular and KLA is usually on the side in its null. KLA's signal sucks though, so it's not surprisingly, and Lite is 100kw from a very good location where all the big 100kw'ers on that peninsula get out massively. Lite can be heard at almost every site on the northern shore of Lake Superior (just shy of Duluth where it fades), is common in RDS throughout nearly the entire UP straight into Ontonagon, and is usual down to Milwaukee across Lake Michigan and most of Lake Huron straight over the Collingwood, Parry Sound, and into Sudbury. So yes, I'd hope Lite is killing KLA. It has every right to steamroll that station. (And will use that right :razz )

Also a big one through northern Michigan and spots in the UP (though not like Lite, of course). It's a regular in Mackinaw City and St. Ignace along with the WRVM repeater to the west. It's usually easy to tell when it's Traverse City from their jazzy public radio type programming that isn't quite public radio but is still... offbeat enough that you just know you're hearing them. Don't forget 94.7 has equal bang for the watts. I regularly hear them at 95 miles down here in Fremont and they're 250 watts. Sometimes it's just all about who else is or isn't on the frequency. If you're in the UP or out-there areas, you'll find those 10-watters will be heard at 50, 60, even 100+ miles regularly. The 10-watt Energy 103 104 signal on 103.5 regularly interferes with TCM in the UP and the 50-watt one on 104.5 always comes in with it at well over 100 miles each. Same with the 99.9 Gospel Opportunities one heading the other direction. Don't forget 96.9 Manitouwadge at 143 watts. You can hear that one all along the southern shore of the lake and I've logged it in Mackinaw City more than once at 238 miles. Helps that 96.9 is wide open and the station is French (and the only one in the region at that), so when you hear it, you know it!
