106.7 WLLZ: Detroit's Wheels (Classic Rock) is here
Re: 106.7 WLLZ: Detroit's Wheels (Classic Rock) is here
Wow! At that time in ‘83 I was at WLBS playing R&B just before ‘LBS switched to New Wave but that was at a time when Detroit Radio was really cooking. It’s to bad we can’t go back to a great time in broadcasting.

You know, That was a time when the Jocks and the Audience where excited to do and hear radio, Everyone loved radio, It was a cool time just exactly where did it get lost. It’s not fun listening to it anymore.

As soon as 4 companies started owning everything............and the anti trust laws came off the books and they just monopolized everything.Steve Korvette wrote: ↑Fri Mar 08, 2019 8:03 pmYou know, That was a time when the Jocks and the Audience where excited to do and hear radio, Everyone loved radio, It was a cool time just exactly where did it get lost. When competition is stifled, creativity is abandoned in search of more and more profit for the select few.Thats what happened here in Canada. The Big8 was the first to fall and CKLW tv.

If radio doesn’t go back to what it once was, Than radio is in it’s endgame as far as a music platform.

What was the reason that 98.7 WLLZ changed from Rock to Smooth Jazz was it bad ratings, And since I was in The Northwest at the time, Who were the owners of 98.7 was It Infinity Broadcasting. I know the format changed in ‘95.

Word on the street was that Infinity wanted to blow out WLLZ to get the smooth jazz format before anyone else. Idk how much truth there is to that. It very well could have been ratings.Steve Korvette wrote: ↑Sat Mar 09, 2019 7:06 amWhat was the reason that 98.7 WLLZ changed from Rock to Smooth Jazz was it bad ratings, And since I was in The Northwest at the time, Who were the owners of 98.7 was It Infinity Broadcasting. I have to admit disappointment. Each time that I've tuned in, I've been greeted with Green Day. This has happened four times.

I'm cool with it. The Original WLLZ introduced me to Green Day and thus, by proxy, introduced me to the East Bay punk scene. I will be forever grateful.

Re: 106.7 WLLZ: Detroit's Wheels (Classic Rock) is here
What a fucking awful playlist. The music choices continue to be suck ass, and this station is still playing the exact same songs in the exact same order as 105.7 Columbus (and probably other stations, too).
My guess is very little effort will be put into the music, just like Fault 106.7 and the classic rock version of 106.7 The D before it.
For the record, I am supportive of this station playing Green Day. That band definitely characterizes the "NEW Generation of Classic Rock." Would be nice if 106.7 played more than just the same few songs by them, though.
My suggestion - either really embrace the "NEW Generation" mantra or stop the charade, ditch the slogan, and offer a traditional classic rock playlist. (Something akin to Flint's WRSR or Grand Rapids' WLAV would be nice.)

Okay, here's a good question....
At what point do the classic rock selections mixed with the newer rock selections put them into an "active" or "mainstream" lean? Riff still has the hold on things like Zombie and Linkin Park. So what groups/artists/time frames are a good cutoff point? Hellbilly Deluxe is 21 years old now. How is Green Day okay (I don't think I've heard anything post Insomniac [1995]) but Korn and Zombie aren't?
