Holy shit, WNIC!

Post by MWmetalhead » Wed Jan 23, 2019 8:16 pm

They just scored a 17.9 share in the Holiday PPM ratings survey, which basically covers the last three weeks of December + the first several days of January.

That is amazing, and might very well be the highest 6+ AQH share of any radio station in any PPM market nationwide!

Prediction - either 104.3 or 98.7 will go all-Christmas for several consecutive weeks in 2019.

What the hell is WDZH The Breeze 0.1, 0.1, 0.1 What’s that all about? Did they really only get 0.2 if so they could have made a mistake going A/C.

That is the HD2 V98.7 rating. Why is it listed as AC?

Look up higher for The Breeze.
It got a 2.7

The funny thing is - in both Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo - all-Christmas earned unimpressive ratings.

In Kalamazoo, WVFM 106.5 actually saw its ratings drop as a result of going all-Christmas! Station had its worst book in ages 12+ in a very long time.

Does anyone know if WDTW (AM 1310) subscribes to the ratings?
I've never seen them in the ratings (and I wouldn't expect amything better than a 0.3), but haven't seen them at all.

They're sure selling a lot of ad airtime.

Almost one in five radios in the metro was tuned to 100.3 during the Holiday ratings period? I can NOT understand why ANYONE would listen to that boring repetitive stuff for hours on end...every year. Must be that many of these folks think that they'll be "saved" for binge-listening to Christmas music, even though lots of them don't adhere to Christian-like principles in their daily lives. As far as 104.3 is concerned, I had been bugging Tim and JJ for a long time not to go "all-Christmas" this year...because I don't like Christmas music. So, blame me for their 4.6 share. Regarding 98.7 The Breeze, even though I love their playlist and limited commercials, their 2.7 share shows my previous assertion (that they need a "big name" morning host to make a decent ranking in the PPMs) to be true. Also, note that 99.5 WYCD took a significant dive in the Holiday period too. :(

Hey, Sam G., Do we call 1-800-CALL SAM if we need advice? :rollin

You do realize that the vast majority of Christmas songs that WNIC plays are secular.

No they are garbage.
Same 10 songs all day by multiple different artists.

I am the biggest Christmas music fan that exists, and WNIC's playlist makes me want to have an ulcer!
That's not good.

Oh and I don't think WOMC's falling ratings are all because of no Christmas Music, but because of the direction it's going.

I heard "Once In A Lifetime" by The Talking Heads play a while back.
An immature ridiculous song like that belongs on The River's "Retro Lunch". Variety Hits also..it was perfect for Doug FM, but not on a Classic Hits station. They are supposed to be the mature sounding station.
Plus this almost all 80s obsession isn't helping at all. If they would play something besides the overplayed songs people got sick of 10 years ago, it might work though.

I also think the change in direction on The Breeze may also have something to do with that. They are in a way going to be competing against their own station, so taking out all the "oh wow" 70s songs would stop listeners from choosing one station over the other. But this makes them both sound dull.
