Variety Hits where are you?

Post by Deleted User 10525 » Fri Nov 16, 2018 11:49 pm

Were missing a variety station, Doug had a decent run, The D 2.0 was never given a chance but near the end of it's 5 1/2 month run, they had it going pretty good, music wise. Some interesting back to back combinations, such as.. Live-Lightening Crashes to Madonna-Open your Heart . REM-Losing my religion to Led Zeppelin- Black dog .

With Damp radio being tossed in the trash, where it belongs. We have 106.7 and 93.1. Personally I think 106.7 should revert back to Variety hits, under a new name obviously. Possibly a name, i.e jack,Mike, Dave, etc... even just 106.7 DTW. " We play whatever we want".

It would be a good fit as a flanker for WNIC or... could The Cloud ditch Nash? Return to Variety hits under a different name.

I liked 106.7 was doing near the end of the D 2.0, would like to see that again.

I really was enjoying The D's variety hits too, and I can't figure out why on earth they even ditched it for Alt to begin with... and stuck with it

Music is my life.

I liked it better then Doug honestly. A few others I can remember: Who Will you run to- Heart fades into Pearl Jam's- Better Man, Sugar ray- someday into The Cars- Good times roll, New Radicals- You get what you give to The Who- Who are you. You know, like most people honestly listen to music.

On my recent trip to Toronto I ran across Jack 102.3 in London and listened to it as long as I could. Then on the way back I keep checking the for the station till I got it, and again listened to it till the signal was to weak. Would be nice if we got a Jack station here in the Detroit area.

We have many variety hits stations there’s WDVD,Cool FM 95.1&100.7,WNIC and WOMC all variety hits stations but labeled something different and all after the same age group. What is a variety hits station and what do they play in other words your definition of variety hits could be different than mine so in conclusion variety hits is like everything else it’s just a label. They Could change the name of WDVD tomorrow and call it Jack 96.3 and do nothing to the music and call it variety hits and everyone will think it’s a new station.

Cool FM is about the only one I can listen too for any stretch of time. WDVD, WNIC, and WOMC would be a very narrow definition of variety.

Cool FM can be called variety or it can be called classic rock just like Doug FM and 106.7 when they were so called variety.

A Variety Hits station usually plays everything from classic rock, to classic soul, to 80's & 90's retro (from multiple genres), to recent pop hits. Nothing in the Detroit market right now comes close to meeting the above definition.

A typical hour might be structured like this:
-30% 80's
-20% 90's
-30% 2K & newer
-20% 70's & older

Cool FM sure as hell isn't a Variety Hits station anymore. It's a bland classic rock station geared toward factory workers.

So the new 98.7 could be variety hits sounds like their recipe.

Nope, that's not at all the case.

98.7 plays only soft music and is overwhelmingly tilted in favor of songs that are at least 25 years old.

Here's an example of the type of station I'm talking about:

Looks like they lean toward classic rock.

Let’s call the new station Jackie 98.7.
