TV5's cackle club

Post by R Bedell » Fri Jun 08, 2018 7:17 am

Was watching the early news edition (4:30am to 7:00am) today (7th) on TV5. Cast was the usual, Holland, Simnitch, Sherrod, and Easlick, with Coty Kuschinsky in the field. Coty was at the usual WKCQ remote Friday spot. TV5 moved over to Jim & Barb (WKCQ) and the chat and interview commenced. There came a point when all hell broke loose, and the 4 women started laughing and talking over each other, to the point where not one person could be heard, understood, or comprehended.

Looks like Mid Michigan has their own version of "The View", chicken coop cackle club. This hasn't been the only incident, but seems the most severe, that I have seen. I guess I am so foolish to entertain the thought that maybe hearing all this hype, on a daily basis, how great they are, that some real professionalism and journalism would be offered.

TV5 has been unwatchable in the mornings. They make me long for the days when Craig McMorris was on the broadcast providing a base level of professionalism.

What a poorly constructed question.

I agree that 5 is unwatchable in the mornings. It is rare that I am able to view at that hour, but the couple of times I've tuned in, I've thought the worst part was that they banter between EVERY story. What makes it worse, is that they are NO GOOD AT BANTERING. It's so painful. Just give the damn story and move on. We don't need extra "pleasant" chit chat just because it's morning.

It appears no one at TV 5 can move a clock. Instead, anchors roll their eyes to the right to give the time.
It appears Julie and Phil don't care.

In the year 2018, do people really need to be told what time it is? We are surrounded by devices that display the time. I think the morning show format is becoming obsolete.

100% agree.

It’s also no longer necessary to say, “Ice will cause roads to be slippery so be careful and leave earlier. Or maybe if it’s not safe, don’t leave at all.”

Amen. Their nauseating promo's stating that they "add a little fun" is a joke.

Seems management is tolerating and/or endorsing the "cackle club" thus I am venturing to say, nothing will be done to improve that chaos.

Phil is considered Ian Jr. in most circles. The news product is still as atrocious as before. They brought back the "5 Things" gimmick. The only thing that is new is they removed the snake hissing soundtrack and got a new set. The set is still the cheapest in the market. Switching large Samsung TV sets on their sides won't improve the product. The cackling still happens often. The banter between everyone is still sub-par and head-scratching. Most of it doesn't make sense, and it is pointless. WNEM tries to sell this narrative that doing good deeds makes you a hero. You can create a drinking game from it. Add Alana Ivey's incessant remarks about being hungry, and you have trouble.

Welp, 5’s ratings are way up in the a.m.
Winning the demo in the 6:00 for the May book, and they’re within spitting distance of JRT’s stiff morning news robots in the 4:30 & 5 for the first time in years.
Doin somethin right!

Perhaps doing something less shitty than the others. Still shitty, though.

There will always be an element of the naive and uneducated that will be in the polling data, if not the majority.

Morning news ratings are significantly down at all stations in all demos compared to 5 years ago. 5, 12, 25, and 66 are all competing for a slice of a smaller pie. The fact that HUTs (households using TVs) and PUTs (persons using TVs) continue to erode gets lost in the horse race of who is winning the ratings race. My 2 cents: because these morning shows tend to push personality and fluff news over real reporting, that's a main reason people have given up on local morning news.
