How about talk with the person who made the error — as opposed to putting them in a nasty-gram email.

Maybe make sure there are multiple people that check all graphics prior to broadcast — like the producer, executive producer, and director.

These are pretty basic systems that work at most every TV station… without the news Director resorting to calling out their staff.

Maybe that's already occurring, yet the sloppy errors are still making it to air?

That's my thought. With technology and things like spell check, it should happen even less than it has in the past.

In my opinion the ND showed class in first addressing the problem with a "velvet hammer". Hope it's enough make his point. Lots of hands touch the on-air product and it should be a communal effort to get it the best it can be. The one employee who gets off by embarrassing his/her workplace needs therapy. I suspect his/her home life isn't pleasant.
