"8MK" Restaurant project yet again, possibly, maybe?

Post by SolarMax » Mon Aug 19, 2019 7:41 pm

The proposed "8MK" restaurant to be housed in the old WWJ radio building on 8 Mile Road at Meyers might be "on-again" after a very long "off-again."
Little heard from these people since it was proposed in 2016. Construction was supposed to be underway in 2017. Three years later, Oops. Toxic site. Needs cleanup. You don't want transformer oil PCBs in your calamari.

I think the earlier, lengthy discussions about this were lost in the system failure a few months back. For those not familiar with this, three years ago it was announced with great ballyhoo that the old WWJ transmitter building, on the American Tower property at 8 MI/Meyers would be renovated and repurposed as an upscale restaurant, called "8MK," by the group mentioned in the article. 8MK was the original callsign used to ID radio transmissions in August, 1920 from the Detroit News building (before those KDKA Election Returns). The WWJ callsign was issued somewhat later. Art-deco style building with very cool radio-themed interior murals, dormant since the station moved to Berlin Twp.
