Yikes.

So, I kinda don't want to touch this one before we possibly know more of the story, but what the hell, the internet is for hot takes, right? Ha.

This seems patently unfair. If the comment was really as innocuous as Deitz says it was, and there wasn't any more to it, it's really sad that his 26 years at WDIV will end like this. Zero tolerance policies never really make any sense, do they? Who do they help? I'm just saying, everything should be about context.

What a shame. It's all right, they'll replace him with 3 cheap new Specs grads.

So Dietz claims he was fired but DIV says that he resigned. Which one is it? I'm sure Channel 4 has some legal justification for saying that he resigned rather than being fired. Most likely a wrongful termination suit. We'll be hearing Dietz on 910AM with his own talk show within the week. They love this kind of crap.

He said the black reporter who was present said he was not offended and came to his defense, but the station has a zero-tolerance policy about racially insensitive remarks and terminated him.
Zero tolerance policy, eh?

They seemed extremely tolerant of Lauren Podell's usage of one of the most vulgar words on the planet. For months, the station seemed to do everything in its power to brush her transgression under the rug.

Lauren also used the f-bomb on the air.

Ask not what your country can do FOR you; ask what they are about to do TO YOU!!

I believe that is what MW was talking about.

She used the f-bomb on the air, and not long after that, she used "ni*****" in a remote truck in front of an African American co-worker. (The n-word incident occurred when the truck was en route to the scene of a shooting in Detroit.)

I honestly forgot about the f-bomb incident. She didn't know she was live.

While we’re getting two different stories let’s not forget that the station already went to bat for him when he got his 2nd DUI and was in Oakland County Jail for some time.
In his Facebook post it says drinks were provided. Knowing your history, maybe you’d leave the bottle alone, especially at a company sponsored event.

Seems like a fairly innocuous comment to me. NOT a fireable offense! Corporate was probably just looking to replace Dietz with someone cheaper and younger. >:

Dietz' salary was probably the determining factor in his ouster .(His departure was reported as a "resignation," but given Dietz' 26 years at WDIV,and his concomitant high salary,he was likely given a buyout and told to sign a non-compete,which would preclude his criticizing the company .) Another excellent investigative journalist is gone, further depressing Detroit's TV " news" quality.

Isn't Lauren Podell some blonde bimbo who owed her job to her IQ and bra size both being 40 ?

No.
Something to the effect of " I guess we'll have to crop the black guy out of the picture"....with said black guy present ( and reportedly defended him).

I never liked his reporting. Very formulaic writing and delivery. Too bad it ended this way.
He had a deadpan style of delivery, that is for sure. I'd rather listen to someone like him, though, than say - Andrea Isom.
