Summer Phase II Nielsen's - Grand Rapids

Post by MWmetalhead » Thu Sep 14, 2017 6:47 pm

101.3 The Brew continues to drop like a rock. Station is only 0.1 share above its all-time record low.

Both sports stations continue to struggle. WFGR took a big dump. WGRD's numbers remain unusually soft. Good rolling 3-month trend for 250 watt Magic 104.9; they are now up to a 2.3 share in ages 12+.

They don't need two FM sports stations in GR.

I think WGRD is soft due to them spiking in too much classic rock.

The Brew might as well throw in the towel - they'd probably do better if they went gold-based Alternative with a bit of a harder edge (i.e. Radio X in the final couple of months; KROQ more recently minus a few currents)... the Brew concept failed in quite a few markets, not sure why they keep holding onto it here... (oh yeah, microbreweries... but we're over the novelty now...)

One sports station is indeed enough...

Since Connie & Fish are reunited will WLHT crack a 5 share?

I've wondered if Alt 101.3 is a possibility, jaydubs.

With a cookie cutter classic rock format, 101.3 should be able to pull a 2.5 or 3.0 share in ages 12+ and a 4.5 share in Men 25-54 without even trying. It would be difficult to match those numbers with alternative. Radio-X 96.1 was a disaster, as we all know.

101.3's problem isn't so much the music; it's the HORRIBLE morning show!!! Listeners are fleeing, just as they did when 101.3 had the awful afternoon team from Salt Lake City a couple years ago.

Make mornings music focused again, tweak the playlist a little, and you'll see 101.3's ratings recover. The station supposedly billed just over $1 million in 2016. That's not great, but it's on par with Gnash 94.5 and better than 96.1, 98.7, 100.5, 105.3 and 107.3.

The only "Brew" branded station that I know of that performs consistently well is 105.9 MHz in Portland, OR. The fact that market is loaded with old hippies certainly helps classic rock's cause there. Also, Portland has no Active Rock station (105.9 gets some of that audience by default) and the alt station there is hoity-toity.

The Brew is not a good name...images of intoxication or a witch's caldron...

Until recently, The Brew's ratings were pretty much unchanged from those of 101.3 The Fox.

As correctly predicted by yours truly, Rover's Morning Glory has single handedly ruined their ratings. He usually fails in every market other than Cleveland his show airs.

I almost never listen to 101.3 anymore, they've been off my presets for awhile, 97.9 IMO is worse nowadays, I removed that recently too, If 97.9 didn't have FB&HW with how they sound now, I guarantee, their ratings would be in the shitter like 101.3's are.

Alternative for 101.3 MIGHT WORK If it's programmed right unlike the epic fail known as X96.1, But knowing Iheart if they went that route, it'll probably end up sounding like 96.1 MAX FM, remember that colossal failure?

MAX-FM's failure was due to the elimination of airstaff following the flip away from i96. The station did well for about 9 months, then the ratings fell and never recovered.

WGRD does indeed sound like shit now. Banana 101.5 in Flint is only a tiny bit better. Some asshole in corporate probably mandated the playlist changes.

the details of the demise of Max-FM are foggy to me, thanks for clearing that up, X96.1 was a failure all around.
