WMKG finally sold:

Post by Bull Shannon » Sun Jun 11, 2017 10:40 am

Muskegon's imfamous TV station WMKG has finally been sold, and apparently the new owners are actually investing into it:

Be curious to see if it becomes anything worth actually watching.

I know the new owner and he quite serious about turning the station around. He wants to be part of the revitalization of the lakeshore area. Done right this has true potential.

It looks like Steve Kanzer, the new owner of WMKG TV40, should fit in well with broadcasting. The day before the new manager was to start, Kanzer told him he had no job.

Rumor has been spreading that Mr. Kanzer has been doing (see above) and saying some things that are not good. Shame.

When the DTV repack happens, will WMKG still have an over-the-air home?
Memo to 106.7: Twenty-One Pilots, Imagine Dragons, FUN and Fall Out Boy all S-U-C-K!!! Stop playing those shitty (boy) bands, and maybe you'll end your streak of piss poor ratings!

The June 2017 article says "from the dark ages to star wars". Okay here it is almost 90 days later and the station still had no website!

For those that were hoping this would be a real benefit to the Muskegon Community looks like they were sold a bill of goods. This whole thing has shades of a Roy Henderson.

Please forgive my stupidity but who or what is Roy Henderson?

The man who ran WLDR - and several other radio stations in the Traverse City area - into the ground.

Thank you. Sadly you could very well be right. I want it to be successful so I'm going to give him/them the benefit of the doubt and hope for the best but I am skeptical.

He overpaid dramatically for WLDR alone (something like $3 million) around 2000 while he would be lucky to get $1 million for all of his Northern Michigan stations now. For a frame of reference, Black Diamond bought most of the Northern Star stations for just under $2 million last year. The NSB stations cover an area stretching from Ludington to West Branch to Alpena to the Soo, while none of the Henderson stations reach any of those communities listed at their current operating state (WLDR and the Benzie stations would barely reach Ludington at full power, but still wouldn't reach Alpena, West Branch, or the Soo).

So far it seems to be going well. The station has one part time computer employee and one person coming in occasionally to record voice work.
