I saw the special last Thursday. I thought Kolker did a great job. His on-air delivery is reminiscent of the way TV reporters use to talk, 30 or 40 years ago. Go back and watch some old tapes of Frank Reynolds anchoring ABC News, John Chancellor doing the NBC Nightly News, or Charles Collingswood, Daniel Schorr or Roger Mudd doing stories on the CBS Evening News. Kolker's delivery style has hints of that style.

It's actually quite legitimate...perhaps just a bit dated to younger ears. Yes, Radio 1, the delivery style has indeed changed. Even more so since World War II (listen to any old radio broadcast from the 1940s or 1950s, and you'll notice the difference). People talk less formally, and also less clearly, nowadays.

The only thing that bothers me is that Kolker is now doing what Henry Erb did so well for over 2 decades on TV8, and yet Erb got demoted back to street reporter for no good reason, it seems. Why didn't TV 8 let Erb continue to do investigative reporting?

Because they wanted Erb to take the "buyout" 14 months ago and leave. He chose not to do that so they demoted him, hoping being a general assignment reporter would force him to quit.

They shouldn't weed out Erb, Kolker or any other quality investigative reporter.

I don't suppose anyone noticed everything in the report was rehash. The stuff about the dead guy was all reported in 2006.
