WJR's biggest problem BY FAR is the fact its local hosts are downright scared to delve into controversies involving local politicians and business leaders.
Hot button topics its listeners wish to discuss are often avoided.

Paul Woods reminds me a bit of the Swedish Chef from the Muppets when he speaks!
Re: What WJR Could Change In The Future.
Also re-runs of the programs of Mike Whorf, Ted Strasser, Karl Haas, Jay Roberts, and other WJR personalities.

Care to provide specific examples of these behaviors from people whose characters you are impugning? Pretty easy to libel people in anonymity. And also very chickens***.BME wrote: ↑Thu Apr 25, 2019 8:06 pm<r><QUOTE author="fuzzpower" post_id="571020" time="1555967908" user_id="14957"><s></e></QUOTE>
Agreed. A powerful signal like WJR's is being wasted with misogynistic, racist, sexist and homophobic pundits whom half the audience refuses to listen to. I will listen to Paul W. as long as he's not shilling for the big-business community.
More of this national pundit junk, and WJR deserves to go under.</r>

WJR is mild compared to that racist station WFDF 910, Talk about a waste of signal and the land the towers sit on in Monroe County. Great shows like Sam Riddle and Al Sharpton that’s radio everyone loves

They already have the call letters for it.Chuck Davies wrote: ↑Mon Apr 22, 2019 4:11 pmThe only local person on WJR that is any good is Paul W. Smith and you’re correct in saying that the corporations don’t want to spend money on local talent. Syndicated is the way for most of the Heritage AM’s or sell them to Ethnic or Godcasters and that could happen to WJR one day, Who knows.SixPlusOne wrote: ↑Mon Apr 22, 2019 3:29 pmI agree with getting rid of Albom and you can add Guy Gordon as well which would make room for Hannity as someone else has suggested. Acquiring additional local talent instead of syndicated programming would mean spending money. Radio today doesn't want to do that like they did in the 50s and 60s.Chuck Davies wrote: ↑Mon Apr 22, 2019 3:10 pmIf they do more local they really need to get rid of Beckmann and Albom, They both suck.

You’re brilliant, Actuality a genius now we have to find a Godcaster and I don’t think we’ll run out of those. I hear that Relevant Radio is interested in big signal stations they’re a Catholic Broadcasting Group they could afford WJR.innate-in-you wrote: ↑Fri Apr 26, 2019 11:26 amThey already have the call letters for it.Chuck Davies wrote: ↑Mon Apr 22, 2019 4:11 pmThe only local person on WJR that is any good is Paul W. Watch out, Cowboy will come after you for saying that... if he can get around the thousands of newspapers in his place to actually get outside.Chuck Davies wrote: ↑Fri Apr 26, 2019 8:45 amWJR is mild compared to that racist station WFDF 910, Talk about a waste of signal and the land the towers sit on in Monroe County. Looks like WJR added jingles back in. It’s been quite a while since i’ve heard WJJJJRRRRR sung at the top of the hour.

Maybe they’re going Top 40 and will repeat Casey Kasem AT 40 from 70’s and 80’s, I would listen any takers.

I don't know about you guys, and I was a youngin', but I really miss the sound of Bruce Martyn and Ernie Harwell on WJR. I didn't listen outside of Tigers and Wings games, but to me, those were the voices of WJR. Many a-nights with WJR on the big Pioneer system. Before anyone gets all snippy and starts playing "Oh but what about...", no, I never listened to progressive talk radio, either. No cable news, no AM radio blowhards...and my life is all the better for it.

You all realize that people under the age of 35 don't even use the radio in their car, correct? Even if they do, it's a much smaller percentage than in the past. It's all playlist and podcast.
At some point, the listeners of these particular programs are going to die and very few people will be replacing them.
It's a challenge to try to run niche programming on a medium designed for Mass Market. I thought they started removing AM from car audio systems.
I believe their best chance is to Super serve their existing customers into the grave and hope there are advertisers willing to support it.
