A Letter to Dan Miller
Re: A Letter to Dan Miller
It's a question of loyalty with Karsch. You wouldn't have heard Bob Ufer doing MSU games, or worse...doing Ohio State Games.

I like Dan. He is passionate about Detroit Sports and Dan was not even born in Michigan.

he grew up a Michigan fan, his parents were (are) professors at U-M
and was the 1st to say his grades couldn't get him in U-M, but could get him into MSU.....

WWJ's anchors shill for online casino & sports gambling advertisers. I don't like that.billmich88888 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 05, 2024 10:01 amwhen i heard commercials last week on WWJ for "California Psychics" i kinda lost respect for the station as being a serious journalistic news outlet.MWmetalhead wrote: ↑Thu Apr 04, 2024 2:34 pmWhen has he worked as a sports anchor / journalist at WWJ?
He's solely been a play-by-play man in the 25 years I've lived on this side of the state. So, no conflict exists.
Larry Henry 25+ years ago did sports reports at WWJ + some Pistons radio play by play.
One could certainly argue Doug "Marlboro Man" Karsch's comments regarding U-M on 97.1's airwaves are tainted by his employment as the football PBP man. The distinction in his case is 97.1 is an opinion-driven sports/talk station, not a news organization that should be unbiased.
But maybe they are THAT hard up for advertising $$ that they took the money..
Next up, 1-900 after hours type of ads......"for steamy talk call".....
I say that realizing on-air jobs don't pay nearly as much as they once did, and I'm sure they appreciate the opportunity to earn extra dough.
I have no issue with them reading spots for Planet Fitness (as an example), but earning income from the gambling industry - which often has matters before the state legislature - creates a conflict of interest journalistically.
Morgan Wallen is a piece of garbage.

This 1990 U-M Graduate agrees 100% with you
Re: A Letter to Dan Miller
In principle, I agree.MWmetalhead wrote: ↑Thu Apr 04, 2024 1:54 pmDan's employment as the Lions PBP man is a major journalistic conflict of interest.
But he's able to pull it off, I think because most of the time he sounds like a reporter, except when he's getting very excited during a football broadcast. His experience with national broadcasts in the 1990s probably helps prevent him from sounding like an extreme homer.
Re: A Letter to Dan Miller
He’s terrible as a PBP man. Combine him with Lomas Brown adding absolutely nothing and it’s a painful listen.
