I could see WCSX-HD-2 + the FM relays switching to Oldies if CKWW becomes something else next year.

If Beasley does decide to bring Oldies back to 94.7 HD 2, they should put it on the two translators 93.5 and 99.1 otherwise it’s just a waste of time to just have it on HD when no one listens.

It is indeed a big waste to try to cover an area as large as a whole Metro with translators, but they are going to do it anyway.

This is actually the fault of the FCC. They allowed this to happen to FM radio. Back in 2003 the FCC opened a bunch of filing windows for licensing translators also known as "The Great Translator Invasion" this is the second time that the FCC screwed up. The first time was the "Deregulation Act of 1996", That allowed big companies like iHeart and others to purchase more signals in a market. Thank You, FCC for helping radio to be in the state that its in.

Cumulus is running its KNBR in San Francisco into the ground (station skews very old demo wise). They are flopping with multiple blowtorch heritage news/talk AMs nationally, too. You actually think they'd have a prayer of being semi-competitive by launching a direct competitor to 97.1? You're crazy if you believe so!!!

Jimmy Powers finally realized 97.1 P1's wanted to hear fewer non-sports topics and wanted a sports talk heavy morning show. The numbers have been thru the roof ever since those moves were made. 2023 has brought the station its strongest AQH shares yet.

This post is spot on. If you want to go strong on your format, you have to go strong 6am-6pm. The ticket is heavy on sports in the morning which engages their audience. I don’t mind the Heather stuff as a break, but you are hearing it less and less I find.

It’s more like they won’t. Hell, I wish Detroit would have an Oldies station on FM, but that won’t happen. The Senior Citizens demographic doesn’t spend money ( so the radio executives say) therefore we may never have an Oldies station on FM or AM for that matter once 580 flips. Therefore, I have to get my oldies fix from the internet or apps. I think Sky is just wishing that 106.7 goes back to what it was 20 years ago and that 98.7 and 88.7 do the same. Never gonna happen.

HD is a waste IMO I agree but I don't totally mind Translators, as they can serve a small group of people that like a particular format, that's not big enough to warrant a full signal, i.e. foreign language or say Alternative rock. Depending on market.

I want a translator to serve an underserved market. I would crank out Welcome to the Jungle, Bohemian Rhapsody and More Than a Feeling on a loop. Maybe Back In Black as a special "deep cut" track.

My car is from 2022. No HD radio, and I didn't even bother to ask for one. When broadcasting fans and hobbyists don't seek it out, you know it's dead.
