LMAO @ Bell Media's shitty FM stations

Post by MWmetalhead » Fri Sep 22, 2023 7:44 pm

93.9 for some reason is broadcasting in monaural and is rebroadcasting 99.9 from Toronto (even the commercials).

88.7's transmitting equipment is working so poorly that I cannot decode stereo and am only picking up a scratchy monaural signal. Their signal has been terrible here for the past month or longer.

96.7 CHYR despite having to battle co-channel interference from AM 1340's idiotic translator, comes in better on my home theater receiver than 88.7! Picking up CHYR in stereo with only a modest amount of scratchiness.

It's almost like they don't care.

88.7 used to come in strong in the Toledo area and even down as far as Bowling Green Ohio, now it's scratchy just south of Monroe. It seems CIMX has been running at reduced power for sometime now or looks like it anyway.

If the signal is weak in southern Monroe County, they are definitely broadcasting at reduced power.

Years ago, the signal in say Lambertville, Temperance, or Erie was just as good if not better than a Toledo station. Over the state line it's gone. So yeah, they have reduced it by a lot.

Been that way since right around when they flipped formats. 89X used to blast into northwest Ohio whereas most Detroit FMs are hit and miss.

But hey, we have 7000 other shitty douchebro/woo girl country stations to listen to anyway.

This is why you can't hear CIMX clearly around Toledo anymore:

If it's routinely weak down there, then equipment failure is occurring or they are at reduced power. WTPG's field strength in southern Monroe County should be weaker than CIMX. Even when WTPG powered up to their current specs, receiving CIMX in the car used to be pretty easy until getting south or east of downtown Toledo.

It wouldn't surprise me if CIMX's antenna system is hosed.

Last December I was picking up 88.7 around Perrysburg. I think 88.9 was at their current facilities.

88.7 Fades around Perrysburg, a total non-factor after that and not to mention, there is a translator in Findlay Ohio on 88.7.

That's what I was thinking. Last time I was up in T-town CIMX was spotty at best.

From what I have seen in the Canadian Database, CIMX and CIDR are diplexed into the same antenna system. Both are directional, and the pattern is slightly reduced to the West. So the single antenna system malfunction might explain why both are reduced.

Both stations have auxiliary facilities, but they appear to be alternate transmitters with reduced ERP into the same antenna.

I've noticed no issue with CIDR's signal strength; they are simply broadcasting in monaural for some reason.

88.7 is the only station where signal strength is degraded (and seemingly growing slowly worse with time).
