Bits and pieces I heard on the police scanner… your trusted source for information in your neighborhood… on your block around the clock.
Haven't most cities gone digitally encrypted and you can't listen to them anymore? I also assumed that this is why scanner radio sales fell drastically.

Sales fell drastically also because digital scanners that can copy trunking systems cost $350-$600 and can't decode encrypted police comms. No all public safety is encrypted, so some jurisdictions' fire/EMS/routine police etc. are listenable using a traditional scanner or SDR.

I was sad as a little kid when I found out that cities started using trunked systems and how much trunked scanners were. I think that Troy and maybe all of Oakland was the first that I remember.

Oakland County used to run their own proprietary Opensky digital system (OakWIN) until recently transitioning over to the statewide MPSCS system. From what I can discern, police communication are still encrypted in Oakland County on the MPSCS system as they were on OakWIN. I am still able to monitor most other counties in the state on MPSCS using a Uniden HomePatrol-2.

Life is not a dress rehearsal. This is it. There's no going back, and we can only go forward before we run out of runway.

Weekend news starts October 7. From a friend at CBS.
It's there now in the zap2it listings for 11pm on Oct. 7 and 8. No 6pm due to football both days assuming it is their intention to add a 6pm newscast as well.
