Your pathetically small playlists, your overreliance on focus tested safe songs, your refusal to go outside the box (maybe thats all redundant) has forced me to get a Sirius account. And I'm already loving it.

Good choice!
Detroit radio generally sucks, but so do most other markets in the Top 100.

I’m still amazed by 250-song playlists. It’s pathetic. Even more amazed that there are people out there that want to hear “Don’t Stop Believin’” and “More Than a Feeling”

It's one of the best choices I've ever made. Faction Punk, Ozzy's Boneyard, Turbo, Fly, pop2k, 90s on 9...there's ALWAYS something to listen to.

And if you have a hankerin' for those burned out songs, you have Classic Rewind and Classic Vinyl. But even THOSE stations go deeper sometimes.

Most of the music channels are great for about two months, until you realize they are just as generally repetitive as your average FM music station, minus the 8 minute spot breaks.

In just the short time Ive had it I have already noticed that there are certain songs that, similarly to terrestrial radio, seem to span multiple channels.
That said, the overall variety is really tough to beat.

I don't even concern myself with terrestrial radio anymore. They are out of touch and stick to the same cookie cutter formula. SiriusXm, while I think their businesses practices are shady at best, at least it's a viable alternative.

For it is a human number
Its number is six hundred and sixty-six

I really only listen to terrestrial radio for NPR and DX'ing. Large market terrestrial radio isn't where I go for music anymore. Small market radio is much more interesting when I'm out of town. And although online radio stations can also be just as lazy in their programming (how many boring 80's hits streaming stations are there?) with poor audio quality, niche programming can be quite entertaining if you know where to find it (hint: the interesting programming is not on the Audacy or iHeart platforms).

My paid Spotify plan allows me to build my own playlist, and the algorithm finds great new music for me, but I'm someone who enjoys discovering music; I am not turned off by an unfamiliar song and I get bored and a little crazy if I hear Don't Stop Believin' 5,000 times.

I love radio and the medium, but gosh have the radio businesspeople and programmers sure shot themselves in the foot. These days I hear of a format tweak or change and think to myself, "ho hum, more of the same."
