Funny, how only the metro Detroit counties are omitted from the Winter Storm Watch. AccuWeather says 4 to 8 inches, NWS says less than an inch. It'll be interesting to see who's right.

The area from Grand Rapids to Saginaw up into north central and NE lower Michigan is likely to see widespread 8 to 12 inch totals along with a period of blizzard or near blizzard conditions.

The area from Kalamazoo to Lansing to Flint will likely see widespread 5 to 8 inch totals along with a period of significant blowing snow and possibly near blizzard conditions in spots. The forecast for the US 31 corridor in NW lower is similar.

SE Michigan could see totals as low as 2 inches near the waterfront to as high as 6 inches along and behind the glacial ridge.

The risk of scattered power outages ahead of a brutally cold air mass is of great concern.

I do think thundersnow is a distinct possibility Friday night, especially in the southern third of lower Michigan.

Edit: I forgot to mention favored lake effect snow belt regions when flow is out of the NNW or NW have potential to see major additional accumulations in the wake of this low pressure system. Between the actual storm system and lake effect, some areas could definitely see 20+ inches of snow from tomorrow through early next week.

Gonna be an interesting storm here where I'm at in northeast Michigan as just like with the last storm, there looks to be some (relatively speaking) warm air that is going to wrap in from the east and probably mix some rain in with the snow, in particular overnight Friday night.

The slushy snow from the last storm is still fully coating the tree branches up here as we didn't quite get warm enough yesterday to melt it, and that looks to be the case today. Even a few degrees above freezing today would help. My concern is if those branches are still covered at the start of this event and we get more of this wet, heavy snow and then suddenly a temperature plunge while it is still snowing on Saturday that we're going to have very widespread power outages up here.

The only reason it won't be colder there is lake influence. Grayling will probably reach -10 at some point.

Lows near 0 and daytime highs in the low to mid teens are forecast for multiple days in much of SE Michigan. The models aren't quite as brutally cold as runs from 24 hours ago.

At my house, the snow that's falling is the same super thick crap that fell in the late February/ early March snowstorms last winter.

Definitely not good for the ornamental trees or power & cable wires!

Edit: already two inches on the ground in my yard (three in spots) as of 5:30p. Falling at about an inch an hour.

The damn weight of the snow caused my outside coaxial cable run to snap out of place. I've lost internet service from Comcast as a result. I'm using my smart phone with Wi-Fi turned off to make this post.

Looks to be about six inches of heavy snow here in Brighton, which seems to have tapered off. No power outages yet in the area.

The schools called and said they were shutting their doors AT 5pm. Not a wise move, as not only do people have to figure out a way to get to their kids during heavy snowfall, but we already have too many people in an infrastructure that was outdated in 1970. Clusterfuck doesn't even begin to describe it.
