It was brought up on a Discord server today that at one point WDIV was carried in, of all places, Ireland.
However, very little is currently known about this. There aren't even any mentions on if it was carried on NTL or Cablevision, which were two of the major cable companies in Ireland back around that time.
What is also not known is if WDIV's video/audio was converted into PAL, as there are no recordings of WDIV that were made in Ireland.
In fact, is this even completely true at all? I question this as so far I've only seen the WDIV Wikipedia page make mention of it's carriage in Ireland.

WDIV in Ireland
My furthest DTV tropo: KDKA Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania at 202 miles for three days in January 2017 and a night in September 2017 with only an Antennas Direct C2V!
Current setup: Antennas Direct C2Max (2018-present)

Re: WDIV in Ireland
It was carried in the strangest of places, so it wouldn't surprise me.

Re: WDIV in Ireland
Winnipeg also had WJBK and WXYZ too, and in the mid 90's during the network swapping, WTOL from Toledo also showed up!

All of these communities received WDIV off of the Anik satellite-- while its main purpose was to deliver American stations to Canadian communities (and Canadian channels, of course), most of the satellites in the Anik class had a footprint that covered most of North America and the Caribbean, and as a result, US communities with no local coverage of network affiliates received them through the Anik satellites.
As an aside, a cable system in Newberry, Florida (outside of Gainesville) carried WDIV and WJBK / WTOL for years until the early 2000s, as Gainesville had no local CBS or NBC affiliates at the time, and Newberry was too far from the nearest cities that have them to get a quality signal. (The Cox system in Gainesville carried Orlando's WESH for NBC and Jacksonville's WJXT for CBS, until the city got their own affiliates.)

Re: WDIV in Ireland
Did the Anik satellite's footprint also extend into Ireland? If so, maybe that's how Irish cable companies were able to pick up WDIV back then.rugratsonline wrote: ↑Mon Feb 17, 2020 11:40 pmftballfan wrote: ↑Mon Feb 17, 2020 9:32 amAccording to the 1994 TV Factbook (posted on americanradiohistory.com), WDIV may have been carried in the following communities outside of Michigan (these communities are all in counties where WDIV had a 5% or higher net weekly circulation):
