Ron Cameron
Re: Ron Cameron
It appears Mozzarella's Pizza in Rochester Hills, one of Ron's more recent sponsors, has gone out of business. That was one I planned on trying in the next two or three weeks.

Re: Ron Cameron
Bring that Ron was a “one man operation” I wonder if the companies have heard or wondered what has been going on, I am not sure if this was something where Ron would have a contract for ads with companies for a period of time? Anyone know how it typically worked?

Watching the pistons as they are playing the heat. They just panned to family friend Erik Spostra,
Re: Ron Cameron
I’m sure they are all struggling without the reach of Ron’s ads to guide the throngs he provided to their establishments.
Re: Ron Cameron
With all the local coaches, managers & executives Ron acknowledged never meeting, I was always dubious of his oft-told story about chatting up the Miami Heat coach who was surprised someone remembered his long-dead grandfather, the longtime Detroit New Tigers' beat reporter. Like so many of Ron's stories, it just never rang true to me.radiofan1974 wrote: ↑Sun Mar 17, 2024 3:19 pmWatching the pistons as they are playing the heat. So many of Ron’s claims were to be ingested with granules of sodium.Momo wrote: ↑Sun Mar 17, 2024 7:50 pmWith all the local coaches, managers & executives Ron acknowledged never meeting, I was always dubious of his oft-told story about chatting up the Miami Heat coach who was surprised someone remembered his long-dead grandfather, the longtime Detroit New Tigers' beat reporter. Re: Ron Cameron
Good question. At the time of his death, the number of ads on his show seemed to be increasing. There probably are some ad contracts that will go unfulfilled—good luck to anyone who tries to recover their money for those unfulfilled ads.radiofan1974 wrote: ↑Sun Mar 17, 2024 1:25 pmBring that Ron was a “one man operation” I wonder if the companies have heard or wondered what has been going on, I am not sure if this was something where Ron would have a contract for ads with companies for a period of time? Re: Ron Cameron
Actually (to use Alex's favorite word), the profits at the Fenton Hotel and the Southfield Ram's Horn might increase because of the bartered free meals that they don't have to serve to Ron anymore.
Re: Ron Cameron
Wherever he may be, Ron must be kvelling at the news that that good/great man - & would-be biographer - Ted Kulfan has landed in the Dearborn Sports HOF:

Re: Ron Cameron
I saw Ron host a radio show at the Chuck E. Cheese at Michigan and Telegraph in Dearborn in the mid-1980s—I wonder if that would qualify him for the Dearborn Sports Hall of Fame?Momo wrote: ↑Mon Mar 18, 2024 12:16 pmWherever he may be, Ron must be kvelling at the news that that good/great man - & would-be biographer - Ted Kulfan has landed in the Dearborn Sports HOF:

Speaking of Dearborn, I wonder if the big pile of newspapers in Ron's closet that almost hit Bob Page included any out-of-town newspapers from the Little Professors bookstore that used to be on Michigan Avenue in west Dearborn? I bought a lot of those papers myself, years before the Internet made that material available through computers.
Re: Ron Cameron
Since the downriver area seemed to be a staple on Ron’s migration route, maybe he will someday be enshrined in the Melvindale Sports Hall Of Fame.Momo wrote: ↑Mon Mar 18, 2024 12:16 pmWherever he may be, Ron must be kvelling at the news that that good/great man - & would-be biographer - Ted Kulfan has landed in the Dearborn Sports HOF:

Re: Ron Cameron
And if residency is a qualification for enshrinement in a local sports hall of fame, there would be many choices for Ron.Majik wrote: ↑Mon Mar 18, 2024 10:11 pmSince the downriver area seemed to be a staple on Ron’s migration route, maybe he will someday be enshrined in the Melvindale Sports Hall Of Fame.Momo wrote: ↑Mon Mar 18, 2024 12:16 pmWherever he may be, Ron must be kvelling at the news that that good/great man - & would-be biographer - Ted Kulfan has landed in the Dearborn Sports HOF:

I'd pick Allen Park, because of the downriver affinity you mention, and the publicity he brought to the cultural amenities of the Allen Park Motor Lodge.
Re: Ron Cameron
Yeah, I had first considered Allen Park but thought that the obscureness of Melvindale was a better fit for Ron’s brokered image.Bobbert wrote: ↑Tue Mar 19, 2024 10:24 amAnd if residency is a qualification for enshrinement in a local sports hall of fame, there would be many choices for Ron.Majik wrote: ↑Mon Mar 18, 2024 10:11 pmSince the downriver area seemed to be a staple on Ron’s migration route, maybe he will someday be enshrined in the Melvindale Sports Hall Of Fame.Momo wrote: ↑Mon Mar 18, 2024 12:16 pmWherever he may be, Ron must be kvelling at the news that that good/great man - & would-be biographer - Ted Kulfan has landed in the Dearborn Sports HOF:

Re: Ron Cameron
Allen Park is arguably too upscale for Ron, and it's also home of the Lions' practice facility (another demerit against Allen Park).
Morgan Wallen is a piece of garbage.
