New Subchannels in Detroit

Post by RingtailedFox » Thu Jul 12, 2018 2:45 am

Alright guys... got some good news for those of us who love to tune in to television here in the Motor City: WKBD-TV (CW 50) has added TWO brand-new subchannels as of yesterday. 50.2 is Comet TV (if you love sci-fi and superhero stuff, this subchannel's for you) and 50.3 is Charge!, an action-packed movies subchannel, kinda like if Grit and This TV had a baby. Both are in widescreen (16:9) 480i (standard definition) but this is great news anyway for those of us that are annoyed with fickle reception of 19.2 from the Renaissance Center or 24.3 from Toledo (both of which air Comet)...

They showed up, but nothing on them yet, kind of like place holders. Hopefully they are live soon. I hate having to keep fighting with my antenna to get WUDL to come in decently. I love Comet and look forward to being able to watch Charge.

Still showing a black screen on both here in Wyandotte too.

For three days in January 2017 (15th, 16th, 19th) and one night in September 2017 (22nd), I managed to receive KDKA Pittsburgh from 202 miles away indoors!

It seems there's intermittent programming on the two subchannels... lots of time there are black screens on 50.2 and 50.3... maybe they're having technical difficulties in setting things up...

Just 2 weeks ago I was on the Charge facebook page asking them to bring Charge to Detroit and they replied they were working on it.

Nice to see they were not BSing me, also good to have Comet coming on a full power as WUDL is tricky to keep stable.Got a clearsteam 4V and it helped alot on "WUDL we will see what they add after losing Comet maybe GetTV will be added there.

My guess is launch will be Friday at 6pm............

And both subchannels are now actually showing programming as of this moment.

Does WUDL have to lose comet? They still have Quest even after WADL picked it up.

Both still blank for me so far, 50 coming in nice and strong like usual.
Don't know if WUDL will stop broadcasting 19.7 as Comet, it is still going there right now. But I am going to change my set up once 50.2 and 50.3 are fully up and probably won't even be able to get WUDL anymore, it is always been the one of hardest station to keep a clean signal for.

Really appreciate CW50 adding these 2 new channels but a bit disappointed that they are still not up and running and here it is 12am Sat. night, wanted to do some late night watching but all for not.

Instead of a a blank screen with just the headers you would think these diginets would have a better way to launch, for example maybe a test pattern announcing "CHARGE INVADES DETROIT" on CW50 coming soon...........

Oooooh, I like it! That could be a pretty effective advertising campaign, too!

WUDL really stinks. Even when I can get a stable picture with my Clearstream 4 the audio still isn't stable enough to watch.

WUDL 's home company is DTV America they run low power stations across the US.The diginets of coarse want to be on a full power rather than a low power. That gives WUDL some openings with Get TV not having a home on Detroit tv and maybe a Latino channel and Weather channel in the works now that Quest and Comet have been taken away from them,

http://dtvamerica.com/

side note.....looks as though Tuff TV might be off of WHNE, we'll see.

We have a vintage Zenith rooftop antenna with a ha-YOOGE UHF section (part of the 10' boom!) into a vintage Channelmaster preamp at about 1100' above sea level here, near the GM Proving Grounds. No dropouts here, just cringes when a lightning storm approaches :blink

7/17 From WKBD:

WKBD is currently conducting signal testing prior to the official launch of Comet and Charge TV.
Data is being broadcast that enables your TV to tune to the channels, but the content is not yet available full time.
We hope to launch the channels very soon.
Thank you for your interest.
