Oh great. More airtime for important local news.

Like today when I saw Towers talking about exercise and getting a "runners high". All the while, looking at him and knowing the last time he ran for anything was a "first come, first served" sale on doughnuts.

No, it's September for Fox 2. KSAZ/Phoenix starts August 8, according to the article.

The chart I saw on TVNewscheck had KSAZ as August 8 and 'JBK in September. Maybe it was updated after my original post. In any event, adding another 30 minutes to an already too long morning block is ridiculous anyway, no matter when they start it.

8 hours of news is too much I’m with you 100% on that... I imagine this is timed to get ahead of fall TV season... who exactly is up at 4am anyways?

You read it wrong. This was at the top of the list:

Fox Television Stations 2018 Key News Expansions

Station

Market

Time Period

Effective Date

---------------------------------
So September is correct. Either way, waaaaaaay too much news.

Stretching the existing staff a little thinner to fill that 1/2 hour is cheaper than paying for whatever throwaway syndicated show is airing at 4am now.

Then they need to go back to school to learn how to write the lists out... the dates are grouped completely differently than what you listed as their key...

There is no need for this from a viewer standpoint. There just isn't enough news in Detroit to warrant it. How many times can you re-run a story about an Amber Alert that turned out to just be the brat going to their friend's house? Traffic isn't an issue at that hour, so it's not like you're getting a jump on avoiding a major backup.

When the locals here in Chicago started to move to a 4am start I even questioned it. But I think you could justify it here a little more...much larger city (10 mil vs 4 mil), traffic issues, plus a lot of commuters here run early whether because of traffic or the time zone (I know many traders, bankers, etc whose jobs align to eastern time).

Christ, when I was back visiting a few weeks ago, watching Jay Towers and Lee Thomas (I still do not understand how he stays on the air...he has horrible delivery, and frankly, whether it's fair or not, his vitiligo is a distraction) interact after reading the same story for the 10th time is painful.

I gotta disagree. Detroit is a working town. Plenty of people are up at 4, needing to be at work by 6.
You talk of running the same story over again. I think it's fair to say few people actually see the same story twice.
Most viewers are getting up, catching up, and getting out the door.

They finally expanded to 4 AM today after some false start dates. They simply decided to use the same people who are on at 4:30.

I also noticed that they kept up their syndication bug and did not display their normal bug until 4:05.

For three days in January 2017 (15th, 16th, 19th) and one night in September 2017 (22nd), I managed to receive KDKA Pittsburgh from 202 miles away indoors!

Just another consequence of outsourcing master control operations.

I work in construction so sometimes I drive a hell of a long way. We start at 6am. There's plenty of times I wished the broadcast was pushed back to 4am. More often than not, I have to leave house by 4:30am. Now, I'll be able to catch weather (however inaccurate) top stories, sports scores and overnight messes on the freeway. I'll definitely utilize it.

I work in an office of a few hundred people, and we have flex-time, start anytime from 5:30 to 9am. I’m shocked at how many people start at 6am or earlier. It’s definitely a more popular starting time than starting at the other end of the spectrum, at 9am.

Also, in a previous job, I worked overnights. I was surprised at how early the traffic started to accumulate on M-59. While I certainly would not call it congested, there really was a noticeable uptick in traffic in the 4am hour. Lots of people start work pretty darn early.

I don’t know, I guess I don’t think that moving Fox 2 Mornings 30 minutes earlier is that crazy of an idea.
