I can see a slight advantage to having former jocks. But only to the extent they are talking about the sport they played. I'm not sure an ex-football player talking about hockey or basketball is any big improvement.
I respectfully disagree.
I think that growing up, and even into college, former pro jocks that played Baseball, Football or Basketball have played more than enough of the other 2 sports, that they could bring what I consider good insight about the other two. I will agree that a fair share would be weak talking about hockey.

I grew up playing 3 sports. It's a rare athlete that doubles up after high school. So a former NFL player who played high school baseball or basketball is like any other guy who played high school sports.
Finally, he switched to a bone saw to finish the job, and at 9:17 p.m., Mountain time, the head of the greatest hitter who ever lived had been sliced off.

I was stuck in a car traveling with some buddies on Saturday and Sunday, stuck listening to Fithian and Leach. It was so unbearable and embarrassing listening to them insulting MSU and their fans while taking calls singing the praises of U of M and their fans. Like I said before, I'm neutral as I didn't attend either school, but it was sports radio at its worst. It was like listening to a bunch of 11 year old girls gossiping at a sleepover. I now know why they will never get a real air shift. I'm wondering if the powers that be at the station actually listen to their jocks - Their obnoxious behavior wouldn't have even been acceptable for a college station.

It's too bad Foster (or somebody else at the station) didn't punch out Valenti when he came there as a skateboard brat in 2001.

Fithian and Leach are just two more examples of the crappy talk show hosting served up in Detroit, and, unfortunately,PLENTY OF PLACES.(My great-niece in New Jersey is about 11,and I hear she's EXTREMELY bright,so I doubt she'd gossip much, and were she in Detroit, listen to 97.1!!!!!)

Probably had enough of Valenti's unending verbal abuse.

Did Woolley and Gator get into some verbal sparring on air a couple of days ago during an update? Or was that one of the other update guys? Very unprofessional. Uneasy listening to that going on. In all the countless thousands of hours I’ve spent listening to radio, I’ve never heard anything like that between coworkers.

Have we entered the infamous "ownership Transition zone" from CBS RADIO to ENTERCOM ?
Reason i ask is that usually we'd hear the announcer say "WXYT FM & WXYT HD1 DETROIT" then the "97 onnne THE TICKET" musical ID followed by "A CBS RADIO STATION", now that last part is now edited out

Various reports say that the transaction closed at the end of the business day on Thursday.

Anybody have any idea, on average, how many callers an hour 97.1 lets on the air? In particular during the 2-6 Valenti time slot?

I often agree with Bogie, but he's way off the mark on something he tweeted today -- that fool thinks Ohio State should've gotten a BCS berth over Alabama!

Alabama lost to one of the best teams in the country and no one else this year. They also defeated a number of top 25 ranked opponents.

Ohio State had two losses, including an absolute ass kicking by Iowa. They also narrowly escaped defeat at home against Penn State.
C'mon iHeartRadio - do the RIGHT thing for once! Please cancel "Rover's Morning Glory" from WBFX in Grand Rapids.

The issue I have with Bogie, is that if you had called him on the show and made that argument - He would have cut you off in mid-sentence before you would have finished making your point. Anytime someone has an argument to contrary to his point, he cuts the listener off before they can finish it and then dumps the call.

For clarification only 2 of Alabama's opponents are still in the top 25 and they are 1-1 against them. I don't see how anyone can give them props for beating a 6-6 team who happened to be mis-ranked

Mikey V. permits about a dozen callers on his show. Some are good, some stupid, but the last couple of weeks, some foul-mouths have gotten past Hatchet Man,though they were dumped when they spewed their epithets.

Some time ago,Valenti told Sullivan he wished Sullivan would contract an STD,then about a month ago,in an argument with a ticket texter about Michigan football,Mikey V. told the texter that he,the texter, had a small penis.About the latter,Valenti,it takes one to know one,but seriously, why hasn't someone bopped Valenti? Is he tied in with La Cosa Nostra?
