If advertisers used their damn brains they would start to realize that people over 55 have the most money.Steve Korvette wrote: ↑Fri Mar 01, 2019 2:13 pmOldies out of the question, It will either be Active Rock or Classic Rock, We have all been in this Oldies discussion numerous times and all agreed on one thing advertisers don’t want to sell Oldies Formats especially on FM.

Except there’s no shortage of research that goes to show the 55+ crowd isn’t as inclined to buy off of radio ads. Who do you think runs the advertising agencies? It’s probably not millennials.

I spend a ton of cash between Kim and myself we spent a grand a week easily on food, entertainment, transportation, clothes, and the Grandkids So that’s bull when the advertisers say older demographics don’t spend money.

Wheelz is already on WDTW-HD3. As for the classic rock suggestion, I am so "classic rocked out". I can't take any more Guns N Roses or Nirvana. 106.7 already tried classic rock, although the format roulette game on that signal has been tiresome. Personally, I am fine with moving the oldies feed there, but something unique/new for the market would be quite refreshing.

So what are your ideas on this latest development Zenith? What type of format would you a 30 something like to actually hear in Detroit?ZenithCKLW wrote: ↑Fri Mar 01, 2019 2:29 pmWheelz is already on WDTW-HD3. My bright idea: no more stale classic rock
How about a station to compete with The Breeze?
I would love a Detroit version of what Windsor has with local CKLW: a community leader with opinion. But I doubt it would do well in this market. So before anyone jumps me for that idea, I already know it won't work.
I'm not a programmer, just a listener. I don't have any great, profitable ideas. I just know what I won't listen to.

Pretty coincidental that they are calling the HD3 channel "wheels" with oldies.....Steve Korvette wrote: ↑Fri Mar 01, 2019 2:13 pmOldies out of the question, It will either be Active Rock or Classic Rock, We have all been in this Oldies discussion numerous times and all agreed on one thing advertisers don’t want to sell Oldies Formats especially on FM.
Detroit has a rich Motown background, and an undeserved audience with the oldies format. Personally I think it would work. I see an few stations recently in different markets have launched a "oldies" format. Even if its on a translator its nice to see. Couldn't be worse than whats on that stick now. I think it would bill well with WNIC.

Zenith, So a good local talk station with info, Traffic, Weather and News sort of what 97.1 was with D&D kind of that era of 97.1, Which by the way was a good FM Talker in its short life, What was cool about it was the fact of live and local.

I really liked what 1200 had going before it was sold.
As for 97.1, I was in high school in those days of WKRK. I didn't listen to anything talk back then, so I can't comment on that.

But AM 1200 was geared more toward the inner-city audience at that time weren’t they? Or maybe I’m wrong. Are you talking the talk or the Classic Soul Format?

As for that, it sounds like WJR. I find traffic reports on radio to be useless (I'm a Google Maps guy), so it's just a waste of airtime to me. Might as well be commercials - either way, that's when I tune out and find another station to listen to. If I had my way, the emphasis would be on the community and its opinion, rather than the traffic and weather every 10 minutes first on the 5's (which are useless interruptions).Steve Korvette wrote: ↑Fri Mar 01, 2019 2:39 pmZenith, So a good local talk station with info, Traffic, Weather and News sort of what 97.1 was with D&D kind of that era of 97.1, Which by the way was a good FM Talker in its short life, What was cool about it was the fact of live and local.
