Such widespread, extreme conditions have not occurred in Michigan for many years
:lol

Is she from Michigan? Was she not here for the back-to-back brutal winters we had in 2013-2014 and 2014-2015? Here in Tawas City we had lows below zero for 40 nights in the 2013-2014 winter. Lemme say that again - FORTY NIGHTS BELOW ZERO.

This has been a mild winter in comparison. Not to mention we'll be pushing 40 degrees by Sunday.

In all honesty what does declaring a state of emergency really do, Perhaps get money from the Federal Government but for what.

Correct. It grants "emergency money" to us and she's using it for resources to help with the weather, such as Emergency Responders, Shelters, warming devices, etc.

This is good use of money actually. I'm pleased to see this!

Now if only she could declare one to fix the roads. :lol

It also allows the various organizations to better coordinate efforts.

I fully support the emergency declaration for the reasons stated above.

I agree, this is a joke.

UP'ers must be laughing at the trolls.

These are the coldest temperatures and wind chills since 1994. 13-14 and 14-15 were cold but the temperatures and wind chills for Wednesday and Thursday were featured on the news... in MINNESOTA where you’d expect them in those years. Here in St. Ignace it’ll be barely below zero... maybe -4 or something... the wind chill will be near -40... those numbers aren’t terribly common in the lower peninsula... that and the areas in the south end of the state almost never see this sort of stuff... since that’s where almost all the people are the declaration makes sense... nobody cares if 12 people up north are laughing...

I don't even think its even hit 0 in many years.
This is not a normal ocurrence down here.

The UP is not the only part of Michigan...
And weather can even differ from city to city.
The entire state doesn't get the same weather spread across...
🙄

I think it dips below zero once or twice a season down on the south end of the state...

Last several years we have had quite the "warm" winter.
I'm sure maybe once or twice it hit down that low though.
I Dont have perfect memory though, lol. I'm just going by what I remember

Agreed. I also support the decision to close offices on Monday and Wednesday, but not tomorrow. I'm fine with schools being closed tomorrow, but the state government should be open.
