"Dead Air 99.9 FM"

Post by Captain Rock » Sun Aug 13, 2017 12:07 pm

“Dead Air 99.9 FM” has replaced “Soul 99.9 FM” on the 99.9 translator as well as primary station 105.9 WDMK HD2. So the playback computer stopped working and nobody can turn it back on. Or nobody noticed it is off. They should have a silence alarm that shuts off the transmitter.

I just want to say that I really like this station, and I hope it won't go away.
If it does change, I will divorce my FM and go marry my XM, Siriusly .... :razz

Soul 99.9 is one of my most listened-to stations. They play the well known songs of the era, some oh-wow recordings I haven't heard in years, and great stuff I am not familiar with. Good use for a translator and HD2 signal.

Put this format on 102.7! It's a no brainer! Motown needs Motown......

A similar format used to air at 102.7 FM, years ago. This was during John Mason's first run in morning drive with Radio One. It generally scored about a 2.0 share in ages 12+, as I recall. (This was in the diary era, pre-PPM.)

Radio One eventually evolved the "Kiss" brand into an Urban AC, saw ratings improve, and ultimately moved the "Kiss" brand to its current home at 105.9 MHz.

Both 92.3 and 105.9 have opted to move away from this type of music in recent years, so apparently there isn't sufficient demand for it among the A25-54 crowd.

I kinda miss the old 105.9 Jamz, by the way.

The hideous electronic billboards in each end zone make Spartan Stadium look like a corny Arena Football League venue!
