WOMC 80s

Post by BKRPDM » Thu Apr 13, 2017 7:52 am

I've noticed starting this week that WOMC is about 80% 1980s music. Are they trying to pre-empt someone else switching formats?

The stuff is getting close to the 30-40 year old range... that's always seemed to be a standard...

These is happening with all CBS Classic Hits stations. The 1980 is about 37 years ago. WNIC has been moving to oldies and think they will take a piece of WOMC ears.

WOMC seems to have no idea what their format actually is

Agreed. Seems like most of the 70s music has been tossed. A lot more repetition....Very few jingles, if any. No segues between songs at times. Boring....

I disagree. I think WOMC is well executed and playing exactly what they should be playing - mass appeal music to a 35 to 54 year old audience. The 70's have been played to death. Time to move on, IMO. Don't eliminate the decade completely, but it ought to be less than 30 percent of the playlist.

The median song age for oldies stations has been in the 30 to 35 range for a while.

I heard a Smashing Pumpkins song from 1995 the other morning... that I was surprised about...

1979, I bet? That one was a big crossover hit for them. Remember hearing it on CHR and Hot AC way-back-when.

Bingo... I didn't like it because I had trouble understanding a word he said and It seemed out of place but it's a sign of the times... speaking of recently added 90's stuff... Walking in Memphis has been getting air lately too...

I agree with this disagreement. I was in Detroit for a few days and I enjoyed WOMC. Made me wish a station back here in Saginaw would mimic the format.

I think they have went downhill. They just played a song that just peak of 26 in 1978. I never heard it before.

They shouldn't have pulled all the jingles. Dry segues, are well...dry.

We will agree to disagree with respect to the 70s music, MW. Some of the 70s songs played were not as overplayed as the ones CSX plays to death. Valid points made, though. Over and above that, though, the fewer songs now get an excessive amount of plays. How many times have they played "Best of Times" by Styx lately? It was played like 4 hours apart the other day. IMO the former station voice was better than the current one, who sounds a lot like Bobby Mitchell. I miss the jingles, too.

You mean Shattered by The Rolling Stones? I don't see a song on their playlist all day that isn't in regular rotation...

Mr. Whitburn says "Josie" by Steely Dan. Also #44 AC.

I think they may be looking at a Top Album Tracks list. It's certainly not a big Top 40 Track. More likely AOR and Dayparted Nighttime Top 40 and AC stuff from that era. Wonder what demos it "tests well" in.

Other '90s pop/alt songs I've heard on WOMC lately include "Time of Your Life" by Green Day, "All I Wanna Do" by Sheryl Crow and even "Jumper" by Third Eye Blind.

I'd prefer a little more pop and less of a classic rock lean personally, but what they're doing now makes perfect sense and their ratings bear that out.

I was addicted to WOMC. The late 60s thru 1989 was a perfect blend.

The removal of the 60s was upsetting but now the 70s?
The 80s have been played snd played to death on every station and I've grown to become annoyed. Now a station playing only 80s, I won't have it

I'm sorry but I'm done with WOMC.

I was in shock when I tried requesting a song from 1970 during the noon lunch hour and I was told he won't play any 70s for me.

Hopefully someone flips formats and crushes OMC.
On 93.5 I've heard plenty of 60s music on there still.

They shouldn't have pulled all the jingles.
If that is indeed true - I share your dislike of that decision. Not sure if the general listening public cares, though.
