That stinks. I like Bill. He covered some of our events, back in the day.
Its odd that they would ice someone that was such a high profile personality at the station.
OR.. Maybe his demands were beyond what Scripps would do.
Maybe he'll head back to Phoenix?

Spencer is a great TV reporter who actually cared a lot about the people he helped in his stories. He took a very active role in the production of his on-air reports, he was forced to MMJ in the last year. The man has a big personality and a big heart and used those traits to deliver help to those in need and great stories for Ch 7. Bill Spencer simply can't be replaced. Good Luck Billy! I know you will find a better gig.

Carolyn is at her worst when she is interviewing someone. She is absolutely awful on her feet. Take away the teleprompter, and she is completely lost.

7 can & should find someone better.

She's one of the main reasons I refuse to watch 7's newscast. FOX2 is the only decent show in Detroit, however in the last year production has been slipping, especially in graphics. On more than one occasion I have seen "SUBHEADER GOES HERE" or something to that effect. No excuse for that, but 7, while they have production value on par with everyone else, their on-air staff leaves a lot to be desired. Sorry to see Bill had to go, he seemed like one of the few bright spots.

You're so right CJ. Bill is a great guy, and always has energy. A real 'go-getter' would be an understatement. He put himself through college working at (I think) Detroit Diesel and playing tennis. I hope the best for him. He's done a lot for people in Metro Detroit.

This is really sad news for me. Bill Spencer covered the vandalism to the Miracle League of Michigan's baseball diamond a couple years ago. He seemed to take us into his heart and spearheaded a fundraising drive that helped us repair the damage. I ran into him in a restaurant across the steeet from the field a few weeks ago and was happy for another chance to thank him.

Methinks this goes to "budgetary" and not "popularity".

Now I think all the "high priced" talent are gone. Clearly the goal of Scripps from day 1.

Happening all over corporate America. You make too much for your position and you get put out.

He can always move to the morning shift on WTVG, then really 'f' with people's heads with two Bill Spencer's on the newscast (unless you include the 'Blizzard' nickname).
