ALT 98.7 reaches new low in June...1.6 Share

Because throwing a bunch of well-tested songs on the air does not make a radio station

Time to blow Alt 98.7 up. Question is, what format would work on 98.7? What does Detroit need as far as a viable format?

I think a variety hits station modeled after their Big 103 (WBGB) in Boston would do pretty well here. Not sure what effect it would have on WOMC, but Audacy has a few clusters where a Jack-esque station and a classic hits station co-exist.
But you know what would be best? Going back to the soft AC format that never should have been trashed in the first place.

Cristina, who used to host Time Warp every Sunday morning on 89X, still does her show every week and posts it on her website, www.cristinarocks.com. A 2-hour show that goes up every Sunday morning, just like she always did it.radioandtventhusiast wrote: ↑Tue Jul 20, 2021 10:30 pmI miss both the Retro Lunch and Time Warp. They played deep cuts quite a bit, some music you don't typically hear on radio.

I'll check it out sometime. When it was on 93.9 the River, Gynp hosted it.BFSEsq wrote: ↑Thu Jul 29, 2021 11:43 pmCristina, who used to host Time Warp every Sunday morning on 89X, still does her show every week and posts it on her website, www.cristinarocks.com. The 93.9 version stunk, in my opinion.
Morgan Wallen is a piece of garbage.

Agreed. Nothing against Gnyp -- I thought he was a decent jock -- but Cristina did a better job hosting it on 89X than he did on the River.
I wish a station out here would pick her up. She'd fit in great at 107one, especially since former 89X-er Kelly Brown is over there.

107one has been playing some pretty decent gold tracks lately. I find myself tuning in more and more provided I'm in range. Too far north or too far east and see ya!

Ooh, good point. Cristina would fit in well on 107one. I'll bet that crowd would love the Time Warp, even. I mean, they play the syndicated New Wave Nation on Sat nights; why not replace that with something live and local? 107one is still, IMO, the best radio station in the area by a mile. There really aren't any secondary stations for me anymore since the big Bell format changes.

I've been listening to Cristina's show on Mixcloud for a few years now. Not being on a commercial station allows her to go even deeper into obscure tracks, all while still having tight, informative breaks. Being online also means no five-plus minute commercial breaks advertising Canadian McDonald's deals.
