Specs Howard passes away at age 96

R.I.P.

Numerous broadcasters have enjoyed very successful careers thanks to the training they received at the trade school bearing his name.

By the way, had no idea Alisa Zee (WWJ traffic reporter) was his daughter. I send my condolences to all who knew him.

Morgan Wallen is a piece of garbage.

Most people I've worked with that came out of Specs weren't worth a darn. They had some really bad on-air habits. First thing the PD had to do was re-program them.

That’s such BS. Many big names graduated from there and have done quite well. MANY.

There are not that many jobs in local broadcasting, but there sure were a lot of Spec's grads.

I think part of it depends on which era they graduated from. I know Bill McAllister graduated from Specs, and he is one of my favorite DJ's in this town.
They/them, non-binary and proud.

The right needs to stop worry about what’s between people’s legs. Instead, they should focus on what’s between their ears.
Audacity sucks.

I knew nothing about broadcasting when I first walked into Specs in 2003. I’ve done nothing BUT broadcasting since that day.
I know the school wasn’t perfect, but everything is what you make of it.
RIP Specs

It seems like many Detroit broadcasting personalities have graduated there, and I'm sure some from other markets too. R.I.P. Specs.

Well, not all of us were able to afford a 4 year college to learn how to say double you and spin Led Zeppelin CDs.

My dumb ass went there because I'm creative and love the music. Two things that have NOTHING to do with radio anymore.

I did well for myself until I started eating Vicodin by the handful 😟

Bill McAllister went there? Ugh. I hate that guy. I bet Specs would like that removed from their record.

Specs as a mentor and teacher was a gem of a human being. He imparted his wisdom in a non-condescending way and always listened to his students. As for the school itself, it died long before its namesake did. It was run into the ground by those who were too busy worshipping the past "star" graduates to give two sh*ts about any of the other grads or alums. If Specs was lucent enough at the end to know what happened to what he built, he would have died of a broken heart.
